Biometrician 1/2/3 (PCN 114119) | Government Jobs page has loaded.This position is open to all Applicants.The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish is recruiting for a Biometrician 1/2/3 located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Juneau!Flexible StaffingTo provide maximum advancement opportunity, this position will be flexibly staffed as a Biometrician 1/2/3. Qualified candidates have the option of applying for a Biometrician 1, 2, or 3. The primary differences between the Biometrician 1, 2, and 3 job class is the level of experience and proficiency required as well as performance expectations. With successful completion of a training plan, the incumbent will be promoted up to the next level in the Biometrician series.Job Description This position is responsible for the statistical and biometric quality of research projects conducted by the Division of Sport Fish, ensuring that information obtained through research is accurate, precise, and appropriate for sound management of sport fisheries. Responsibilities include study design and determination of appropriate sample sizes and expected precision, data analysis using both classical and Bayesian statistical methods, and co-authoring of operational plans and reports. The incumbent will provide biometric support and consultation, and will work collaboratively with regional fisheries managers and research project leaders to meet research and management objectives.

Who we are looking for:A graduate degree and/or advanced training in Statistics or biometrics.Broad, comprehensive knowledge of statistical theory and techniques of quantitative biological research. Skills of interest include experimental, sample, and survey design; variance estimation; regression, spatial and time series analysis; multivariate and nonparametric methods; generalized linear, linear mixed effects, and hierarchical models; population size estimation using mark-recapture; and Bayesian techniques in ecological settings. Applicants need not be proficient at all skills.Demonstrated experience using statistical software packages including R, JAGS/WinBugs, SAS, Program Mark; experience using spatial data programs and applications including ARCGIS and ARCmap.Strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to present biological data and analytical results clearly and in an understandable manner to both technically oriented staff members and to lay people.Proven ability to work with a high degree of independence.Minimum Qualifications

Biometrician 1A master's degree from an accredited college in biometrics, statistics, or one of the biological sciences including or supplemented by 18 semester or 27 quarter hours of graduate level statistics and/or biometrics.Biometrician 2A master's degree from an accredited college in biometrics, statistics, or one of the biological sciences including or supplemented by 18 semester or 27 quarter hours of graduate level statistics and/or biometrics. AND One year of experience practicing as a biometrician at the first working level.Biometrician 3A master's degree from an accredited college in biometrics, statistics or one of the biological sciences including or supplemented by 18 semester or 27 quarter hours of graduate level statistics and/or biometrics. AND Two years of experience at the full proficiency level of professional biometric research.Contact Information
