NoneJob SummaryReceives and investigates complaints concerning possible violations of County Zoning and Refuse Ordinances. If violations are found, the Code Compliance Officer seeks compliance through the cooperation of the parties involved and by legal action when necessary. Position requires an individual who is proficient at working independently and with others in a variety of environments, including field, office, and legal.Essential Job FunctionsAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential duties:Receive, evaluate, and investigate complaints involving County Zoning and Refuse Ordinances.Gather and document evidence to determine if a violation exists. Notify property owners of code violations. Seek compliance through cooperation of the parties in violation or by legal action if necessary. Present evidence and written complaints to the magistrate for General District Court hearings. Prepare files and assist the County Attorney’s Office in Circuit Court cases.Inspect properties for compliance with conditions/requirements associated with permitted, and special use permit uses, variances and proffered re-zonings, yard area/setback requirements, and outdoor lighting.Meet with property owners and tenants to resolve problems.Supervise the process of bringing properties into compliance under court order.Make referrals to social services, Police, Fire-EMS, public works, health department, or other applicable agencies when appropriate.Maintain case files and prepare monthly reports.Utilize a variety of electronic/digital equipment for photography and use computer software extensively for tracking cases and creating and storing documents and records.Work with the building division as needed to most efficiently process cases that involve both divisions.Assist the zoning division in all administrative reviews and perform related tasks as required.KnowledgePrinciples and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and local, state, and federal political processes. Relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.SkillsGood oral and written communication skills. Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.AbilitiesRead, analyze, and interpret periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse population. Effectively present information and respond to questions. Prepare reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Operate technical equipment, use a personal computer to enter data and prepare narrative field inspection reports and other documents. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret a variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
