Assistant Building Official

Under limited supervision of the Building Official, this position performs highly responsible administrative, supervisory and technical work dealing with customer services. The employee is also responsible for assisting the Building Official in the supervision and managing of personnel within the Building Division. Acts as the Building Official in the absence of the Building Official. Reports to the Building Official.REQUIRED:Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Business or Public Administration, Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or other related field.Ten (10) years of experience as a general contractor, professional engineer or architect, which includes two (2) years of experience as a supervisory building inspector.Possession of a valid Driver's License and good driving record.Certified by the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional regulations as Chief Inspector, Standard Plans Examiner or Standard Inspector by an AHJ or school board within the State of Florida for a minimum of two (2) years.Must meet all the requirements for appointment as an Assistant Building Official as set forth in the Florida Building Code to be certified by Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals and be certified by the State of Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulations.Additional qualifying experience in a job-related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.The selection process will include successfully meeting the minimum requirements of each of the following: an oral assessment, background investigation and a medical examination which includes a drug screening test and physical examination.If selected to move forward in the hiring process, you will be required to obtain and submit your lifetime driving history record.All fields must be completed.
