Empowered by cloud computing, together, they will fundamentally change the way we live and work. ISO New England recognizes this disruptive force and fully embraces it. In this role, you conduct a wide range of research and development work to solve practical challenging issues facing ISO New England. We are looking for talented applicants with background in machine learning, cloud computing and preferably power systems, who are able to analyze critical issues, identify new opportunities, develop compelling use cases and provide technical solutions to help the region's clean energy transition.

You will be an integral part of the Emerging Technologies team within the Advanced Technology Solutions department. This dynamic group consists of highly intellectual, high-performance R&D engineers, each recognized as a subject matter expert in their fields. Internally and externally, the team is known as the "Think Tank" and "Innovation Engine", dedicated to solving real-world problems through innovation.

How you will make an impact:

Machine Learning: use cutting-edge ML technologies to solve engineering or business problems.

Cloud Computing: Adopt cloud computing resources and services for technology related initiatives and decision-making, whether from computing challenges of power system engineering simulations or ML needs.

Internal Consulting: Analyze, design, prototype and recommend innovative engineering, architectural and software solutions to complex technical challenges from business units such as Operations, Planning, Market and IT.

External Collaboration: Engage in collaborative efforts with leading research organizations such as EPRI, DOE National Labs, PSERC, CURENT, and software/service/platform vendors.

Technology Exploration and Use Case Development: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, collaborate with business users to develop compelling use cases, create prototypes, and provide innovative solutions to both new and existing challenges.

What you need to be successful in this role:

Master or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other relevant major. Bachelor's Degree and extensive research experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience in data-driven algorithms, e.g., data mining, machine learning, Large Language Model (LLM), Generative AI.

Knowledge and user experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS) or equivalent cloud platforms.

Hands on experience in software development using popular programing languages like Python, Java, Matlab, etc.

Good analytical, communication and presentation skills.

At least 5 years of ML and cloud experience is required for the Senior Data Scientist position, and at least 8 years for the Lead Data Scientist position.

Desired but not required:

Fundamental knowledge in power systems and electricity market; understanding of power system data from various sources such as SCADA/EMS, synchrophasor, load, wind/solar generation, weather, production scheduling, etc.
