This is a hybrid position with the potential of coming onsite 3 days a week.Involves the establishment and supervision of processes (e.g., performance improvement, clinical documentation, etc.) to achieve the optimal degree of excellence in the services rendered to every patient. Evaluation of practice operates within the parameters of patient outcome, cost-benefit in care provision, and patient access to the health care delivery system. Provides for internal strategic planning efforts and implementing continuous quality improvement programs. Reporting to the Director of Adult Quality Improvement (AQI), the Sr. Quality Improvement Specialist is responsible for activities at UCSF Health which supports the Mission, Vision, Goals and Values of the organization and promotes high-quality patient and family care services. The Sr. Quality Improvement Specialist is able to work independently and in collaboration with Department of Quality & Patient Safety staff, other medical center staff and physician leaders to identify/implement strategies to improve the quality of care to patients of the medical center. In support of internal and external quality initiatives, the Sr. Quality Improvement Specialist applies extensive knowledge of quality data analysis and/or improvement concepts, methodologies, and data collection and abstraction techniques to substantial projects of large scope and high degrees of complexity. In support of designated clinical departments, the incumbent will partner with physicians in a team-based approach to drive the program and maintain an open dialogue to achieve identified goals and priorities related to quality and safety. The Sr. Quality Improvement Specialist identifies potential problems in the care delivery process as a result of data monitoring and formulates a workgroup to resolve the issue and ensures new processes are in place to improve the delivery of care.Department Description

Adult Quality Improvement (AQI) is a division within the Department of Quality & Patient Safety (DoQS) that provides clinical quality improvement program support to adult medical and surgical departments. AQI manages CMS and Joint Commission quality reporting programs, supports several clinical outcomes registries, and coordinates hospital wide and multi-hospital quality initiatives and collaboratives.Required Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:Plan and form stakeholder work groups, develop and agree to scope of work documents, communicate with project participants, sponsors and stakeholders, develop work plans, track actions and decisions, facilitate and attend meetings, facilitate problem resolution, and monitor and report outcomes.Analyzes and interprets highly complex data of broad scope, and summarizes statistical findings. Develops and maintains corresponding reports, dashboards, presentations, and action plans. Prepares and delivers executive summaries.Identifies statistical trends, problems, and potential issues in patient care and services. Participates in or leads project teams in clinical departments to investigate, develop and implement corrective plans, and monitor their effectiveness.Participate in QI reviews of highly-complex mortality cases, sentinel events, readmissions, and other cases flagged by screening criteria as needed. Identifies cases that require urgent reviews and collaborates with management as required to develop and implement appropriate responses.Develop and direct the implementation of targeted education and training programs for Medical Center Staff.Participates in or leads clinical and technical teams on broad-scope projects using advanced QI models to develop new plans, criteria, and benchmarks.Researches best practices and develops and implements improvements in the data collection and reporting processes and/or systems.Serves as a technical leader to provide advice and counsel others on highly-complex QI issues of functionality, efficiency, performance improvement, and program development.Required:In-depth knowledge of QI models, tools, and techniques, including collection, abstraction, validation, analysis, visualization, reporting of data, and use of performance and benchmark indicators.Advanced organizational and project management skills, with the ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.Advanced critical thinking and problem solving skills to manage multiple levels of highly-complex information and responsibilities, to quickly assess problems, and to develop and implement timely and effective solutions.Advanced interpersonal skills for collaborating effectively with all levels of clinical and technical staff and representatives of external regulatory agencies and for mentoring lower-level QI staff.Advanced ability to effectively convey complex clinical, technical, and educational information both verbally and visually, and to produce high quality reports, documentation, and presentations.Advanced knowledge of various administrative and business software packages, and of the specialized applications for quality data management.Advanced skills to influence and persuade staff, management, and clinicians at all levels and across departments.Five (5) years of experience with QI standards, clinical chart review and abstraction, and regulatory requirements.Bachelor's degree in nursing or other healthcare profession, or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience.Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in nursing or other healthcare profession, or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience.Lean / Six Sigma.Certified Professionals in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).About UCSF
