Overview

We are seeking a full-time Director of Professional Development

in our Olathe, KS location. This position is accountable for scaling and leading the processes, programs and resources essential to ensure a leading high-tech company has the professional and leadership talent to continue its rapid growth. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the strategy, design, implementation, and evaluation of succession development, training and professional development at Garmin. This role will provide substantial opportunity for both vision and execution in these areas and will partner with executives, leaders and HR Generalists to deliver comprehensive individual contributor, management and executive development through education, experiences and exposure.The ideal candidate is an accomplished, collaborative leader who has experience working with all levels of associates and leadership within an organization, and a proven track record of building and implementing progressive training and professional development strategies that directly align and enhance business outcomes, associate engagement, and organizational effectiveness.Essential FunctionsArchitect and execute integrated professional development programs and processes to drive professional growth and accountability across the organizationSupport Garmin’s Mission, Vision and Values through training to avoid dysfunctional behavior and reinforce the desired Garmin culture, leadership style and relationshipsDesign, build, and ensure delivery of focused training and development content and curriculum for Garmin leaders/associatesConsult with business leaders to understand their leadership/management development needs for input and the appropriate sponsorship, engagement and alignmentTrack/drive measures of success/impact such as: business results, enhanced talent pipeline, retention and new behaviors clearly demonstratedChampion succession development process and development of high potentials and high performers identified in the Talent Review; ensure creation and follow through on training and professional developmental action plans agreed to with their managersPartner with HR Leadership on Performance Management Program and ensure it supports goal management and individual/organizational effectiveness.Create on-boarding programs for Directors and aboveOversee design/creation of leadership programs utilized for readiness and development of high potentialsPartner with external vendors where appropriate and manage budget and vendor agreementsDirectly supervise/lead various levels of team members by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training and mentoringParticipate in recruiting activities, interview, hire, train, develop, motivate and evaluate performance for the team ensuring they are highly engaged and effectiveBe a trusted advisor / partner to the business by building the necessary relationships to prepare and influence the education, experiences and exposures availableChampion the Individual Development Plan processServe as a coach for succession candidates identified for critical roles and their managers to develop leadership and soft skills and prepare them for succession positionsFacilitate leadership programs and conduct individual coaching with Senior Leader participantsLeverage multiple delivery methods (OJT, ILT, virtual ILT, video, online, social learning etc.) to ensure training is easy to consume and impactfulManage projects to enhance productivity and effectiveness of organizationsResearch/introduce new training and development programs, processes and practices that are of value to GarminBasic QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Behavior, Development or Management, Communications, Psychology, Business, or related field

AND

a minimum of 10 years relevant work experienceMinimum of 5 years of leadership experienceDemonstrated ability to think strategically, sell ideas and have significant impact/influenceMust be results-oriented with strong track record of accomplishmentsAbility to influence, motivate and engage associates and leaders to make the changes needed to progress within the organizationWell versed in assessment tools, training curriculums and coaching models/techniques with the ability to relate to technical leadersFully proficient with all phases of course and curriculum development with ability to mentor others in this skillProven experience in providing guidance, strategy, and conflict resolution with senior leadershipDemonstrates expert knowledge in the use of data, evidence based research, benchmarks, training and business metrics to make critical decisionsProven ability to critically examine training initiatives and strategies and challenge assumptionsDemonstrates knowledge of economic factors and economic environment impact on industry and organization operationsDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated effective presentation skills and public speaking abilityDriven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult people-related problemsMust be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environmentDesired QualificationsCPLP CertificationPHR or SPHR CertificationMaster’s DegreeGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
