Manager, Network Engineering, WiredIT Data NetworkFull TimeJob SummaryThe Manager, Network Engineering, Wired will manage a team of network engineers responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of UCSF's wired network infrastructure. This role encompasses overseeing the team's daily operations, developing strategies for network optimization, reliability, and security, and working closely with the Associate Director, Network Wired and Wireless to align network wired efforts with the broader goals of UCSF. The Manager, Network Engineering, Wired will also ensure that network solutions support UCSF's academic, research, administrative, and operational goals and will collaborate with other departments, stakeholders, and vendors to facilitate the successful planning and execution of network projects.This person will leverage their expertise in wired network technologies and strong management, communication, and project management skills to manage this team.Involves operation of the campus, medical center, or Office of the President communications network, including telecommunications. Plans, designs, develops, installs, and maintains communications network systems for the campus, medical center, or Office of the President or a unit.Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree, or equivalent combination of experience/training in one or more of the following fields: computer science, engineering, computer information systems, etc.Significant experience in designing, implementing, and supporting large-scale, complex network environments. Advanced understanding of professional communications and network systems.Advanced technical skills in wired network design, configuration, and troubleshooting, including comprehensive knowledge of WAN and LAN technologies, routing protocols (such as OSPF, BGP), MPLS, VxLAN, QoS, and other networking concepts.Advanced knowledge of monitoring tools and commands to ensure swift resolution of issues.The ability to manage network projects efficiently, including resource allocation, budgeting, and scheduling.Skills in using network monitoring tools (such as SolarWinds, Nagios, Datadog, PRTG) and diagnostic tools (such as Wireshark) to troubleshoot and optimize network performance.Advanced written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated leadership/management skills.Advanced project management skills with demonstrated experience in delegating responsibility.Extensive experience in solving technical and non-technical problems.Demonstrated experience in providing inclusive leadership to others.The ability to inspire creativity in others.Preferred QualificationsUnderstanding of network security principles and best practices.Substantial experience with network equipment from major vendors such as Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, F5, Infoblox, and Palo Alto Networks.Experience in complex higher education environments.License/CertificationCisco Certified Network Professional certification (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE).Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).Project management certification (e.g., PMP), ITILv4.About UCSFThe University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research and excellence in patient care.Equal Employment OpportunityThe University of California San Francisco is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
