Position Description

The Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of California, Davis invites applications for lecturer positions to teach courses during the 2024-2025 academic year. Compensation and the duration of the appointment will depend on the number of courses assigned and the number of units per course.

To instruct ENV 202 in Fall and/or ENV 297 in Fall, Winter, or Spring.

Course Descriptions:

ENV 202 - Policy Development and Implementation:

Environmental Policy development and implementation processes; developing and enacting legislation, regulation development and review, and implementation of new laws. California state processes. Local, federal and international policy. Business' role in climate policy. Theory, applied study, discussion with guest experts, and practical skills such as how to write for a policy audience.

ENV 297 - Professional Development Seminar:

A weekly seminar that focuses on developing professional skills for environmental policy and management careers. Each quarter is focused on different themes developed in collaboration with the instructor and program director.

Appointment Date:

Assignments vary according to type of course and percentage of appointment. Service periods are:

Fall Quarter 2024: September 23, 2024 - December 13, 2024

Winter Quarter 2025: January 3, 2025 - March 21, 2025

Spring Quarter 2025: March 27, 2025 - June 12, 2025

Responsibilities:

Teach one or more undergraduate or graduate courses in Environmental Science and Policy. Candidates may be asked to teach one to two courses for the year depending on programmatic need and candidate's availability.

Qualifications:

Appropriate professional degree, e.g. Doctorate; or Master's degree and prior professional success and recognition for excellence; or Thirty (30) units of graduate coursework and prior professional success and recognition for excellence; a demonstrated teaching ability; a developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the course.

General Information:

Temporary Lecturers are selected to fill specialized positions which require professional, as well as academic, expertise. Temporary Lecturers may be selected to fill teaching needs occasioned by leave of regular faculty or to enhance and complement the strengths of faculty teaching related courses. Therefore, in any given year, open positions and requirements for individuals to fill them will vary.

Salary:

Commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.

A demonstrated teaching ability

University level teaching experience is highly desired.
