Data Analyst I
Massachusetts General Hospital, Lexington, South Carolina, us, 29071
The Mongan Institute is seeking a full-time Data Analyst to provide analytic support for research activities within the Health Policy Research Center.
Reporting to Vicki Fung, PhD, and Alex McDowell, PhD, the Data Analyst will play a key role in conducting health policy research that examines coverage and access to care for populations that experience health disparities, including individuals of disadvantaged socioeconomic status, racial and ethnic minority populations, and LGBTQ+ populations. Our studies examine the impact of health policies – with a focus on Medicaid and Medicare policy - on access to and use of care, quality, outcomes, spending, and disparities. The Data Analyst will work in collaboration with a team of researchers, clinicians, economists, and biostatisticians.
The Data Analyst will be responsible for supporting the development of and executing analytic plans; cleaning, managing, and analyzing large datasets, such as medical and pharmacy claims data and complex surveys; applying appropriate statistical tests and models; and preparing results for dissemination using tabular or graphical formats; and communicating methods and findings in presentations and manuscripts.
Applicants should have training in biostatistics, epidemiology, economics, statistics, or a related field; experience analyzing health care data is preferred.
The Data Analyst will work directly under the supervision of Drs. Fung and McDowell on various data-focused tasks including, but not limited to, data cleaning, data harmonization, data quality control, data analysis and interpretation (e.g. multivariate regression analyses, survival analyses, etc.), and data visualization. The Data Analyst may also be asked to assist in conducting related literature reviews, developing grant proposals, and developing presentations and manuscripts for dissemination of findings.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of college-level training in statistics or related fields (e.g., biostatistics, epidemiology, economics), with demonstrated strong analytic ability. The candidate should have experience working in SAS, STATA, R, Python, or similar programming languages. This position requires attention to detail, especially in ensuring data quality and accuracy. The ability to work simultaneously on various tasks, to maintain attention to detail, and to effectively communicate with and contribute to the project team are also essential.
