The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine and Bioethics, at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting for a full-time physician faculty member in the In-Residence or Clinical X series at the Assistant or Associate rank in General Internal Medicine. Faculty in the In-Residence series are expected to engage in teaching, independent research and creative work, demonstrate professional competence and activity, and provide University and public service. Faculty in the Clinical X series are expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service.The candidate will make significant and creative scholarly contributions to the Division's research mission through methodologically rigorous quantitative research that applies advanced analytic methods to large health-related datasets (from government programs, large health systems, and/or payors) in order to assess patient outcomes and their association with quality, equity, and/or value. The successful candidate will have a track record of externally funded research in this area and a history of interdisciplinary research collaborations. Candidates at the Associate level will also be passionate about mentoring and teaching junior faculty across multiple specialties or subspecialties. The candidate will be expected to maintain a portfolio of externally funded research and spend about 20% of their time performing clinical duties in the Division. Basic qualifications

(required at time of application)Completion of a terminal medical degree (M.D., D.O.)Must be board-certified or board eligible for Internal Medicine.Subject matter expertise and the creative energy necessary to develop or maintain an independent program of externally funded clinical or health systems research involving large health-related datasets to examine links between patient outcomes and quality, value, and/or healthcare utilization (broadly defined).Strong scientific writing skills as evidenced by a track record of first-author peer reviewed publications and (for candidates at the Associate level) successful grant proposals.Training in advanced quantitative research methods (e.g., PhD or master's degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, health services research, or computer science) or equivalent experience.Ability to write and submit competitive applications for extramural research funding as evidenced by a track record of successfully obtaining external funding as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator (required for Associate level; preferred for Assistant level).Applicants at the Assistant level will be expected to present a plan for obtaining independent research funding (e.g., submitting a research career development award proposal).Ability and willingness to contribute to the teaching mission of UC Davis, such as teaching medical students, residents, fellows, graduate students, and postdoctoral trainees. The amount and type of teaching will be determined by the Candidate's interests and qualifications.Ability and willingness to contribute to University Service.Candidates must be eligible to practice medicine in California and be willing to do inpatient and/or outpatient clinical work in the Division.
