Job Description
Hanley, Flight and Zimmerman, LLC (HFZ), a patent prosecution law firm located in downtown Chicago, is seeking engineers with industry experience to train to be patent engineers. As a patent engineer at HFZ, you will use your engineering skills to protect a wide range of cutting-edge technologies for some of the most innovative companies in the world. Patent Engineers can experience rapid career advancement and pay escalation opportunities by becoming patent agents, and attending a part-time law school program with the goal of becoming a patent attorney. This is an in-office, Chicago-based role with hybrid flexibility. This is not a remote position.

Compensation:
  • The salary range for this position is $85,000-$105,000. Actual salary will vary and may be above or below this range based on experience.
  • Year-end bonus potential - discretionary and based on productivity.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Program includes Health, Life and Disability Insurance and available Dental and Vision insurance.
  • 401K plan.
  • This is an in-office, Chicago-based role with hybrid flexibility.

Requirements

Candidates are required to have:

- at least two years of engineering-related work experience,

- the desire to become a patent attorney,

- an ELECTRICAL, COMPUTER, BIOMEDICAL and MECHANICAL engineering undergraduate degree or COMPUTER SCIENCE degree.

- excellent academic credentials, and

- strong analytical and writing skills.

Candidate Preferences:

- candidates with an official LSAT score - a real plus

- candidates with a Patent Office Registration Number - a real plus
