Responsible for GIS application programming, database conversion/maintenance, and technical support. Provides technical assistance in the development and maintenance of GIS applications. Performs lead role over GIS Technicians. Troubleshoots, documents, and corrects ESRI ArcGIS application problems and errors. Troubleshoots, documents, and corrects user application problems and errors. Tests and evaluates new applications and vendor software. Provides technical documentation, reports, summaries, and memorandums. Maintains GIS database standards and security measures to safeguard the integrity of GIS data and assures database backup and recovery. Provides GIS-related training and assistance to staff and management. Utilizes GIS software and techniques to perform specialized spatial analysis. Creates mapping applications for analysis, presentation, and distribution. Performs other similar and related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Cartography, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, or a closely related field, and a minimum of three (3) years' experience in GIS applications and programming; prior experience with ESRI GIS software required; coursework in computer science and programming desirable; or an equivalent combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; must possess a valid Arizona driver's license if position duties require.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of: - principles and methods of Geographic Information Systems (GIS); - principles and practices of GIS data conversion and maintenance; - principles and practices of relational database management systems (RDMS).
Considerable knowledge of: - GIS hardware and software (ESRI ArcGIS); - principles and practices of GIS data conversion and maintenance; - programming languages including Visual Basic (VBA); - principles and practices of cartographic composition.
Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; follow written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, fine motor skills, ability to communicate.
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle.
