JOB DESCRIPTION of EHS Specialist

Position Overview:

EHS Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing environmental, health, and safety programs.

Job Responsibilities:

Ensure adherence to all relevant legal rules and regulations.

Educate and oversee employees on health and safety procedures and regulations.

Monitor personnel and workspace.

Ensure the company is current on all relevant Health and Safety documents.

Encourage and promote the use of safe work equipment, materials, and supplies.

Track the number of incidents and produce reports.

Monitor exposure to certain hazardous chemicals.

Report to Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and other relevant organizations.

Practice safe working techniques and reinforce safety policies, guidelines, and procedures set out by the Company.

Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee/supervisor level to ensure a consistent and effective approach.

Assist in the identification of possible losses; evaluate risks; develop and implement a plan to correct or prevent losses; and audit the plan for effectiveness.

Ensure contractor personnel working on the property comply with safety policies and requirements.

Maintain and update SOPs for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in day-to-day training.

Perform and contribute to Site Training Plans by conducting employee orientations, emergency response training, and coordinating modular training programs for Operations.

Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected.

Coordinate with the president, Production, Equipment, and Energy Department on facility deficiencies and monthly safety inspections.

Maintain all logs and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements.

Assist with maintaining the Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans & Procedures.

Coordinate regulatory programs and their application; support the compliance process; provide relief for the environmental department.

Research and write permit applications, work with environmental groups, and ensure compliance with permit reporting requirements.

Review accidents and incidents, conduct field audits, and oversee corrective actions.

Maintain filing systems regarding worker training and safety.

Manage Team Base Risk Assessments and regularly conduct training needs analysis.

Responsible for plant water and waste-water treatment.

Analyze, report, and record water, chemical, and biological waste-water systems.

Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing of treatment system equipment.

Cooperate with the company to achieve operational performance indicators.

Ensure company compliance with all OSHA regulations and HCTI policies, procedures, and rules.

Fulfill any other or temporary tasks assigned by company management.

Complete other work assigned by immediate superior.

Job Qualification:

Education:

High school or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Work Experience:

Over 5 years of experience as an EHS Specialist.

Skills:

Ability to maintain company policy and TCEQ Permits, while continuing to pursue improvements and maintain processes and systems.

Demonstrate good relationships with team members and customers.

Excellent problem resolution and communication skills.

Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Team player with the ability to build and maintain relationships, both internal and external.

Work Environment:

Can expect to work in both an office setting and out in the manufacturing area.
