The principal purpose of the Acquisitions Librarian is to select and recommend titles for purchasing materials to meet the academic needs of the library users.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of University and State purchasing and accounting regulations particularly in regard to the acquisition of library resourcesKnowledge of emerging trends and best practices in academic librarianship, instructional design, and outcomes-based assessment practicesKnowledge of library policies and proceduresAbility to use MS Office Products, including Outlook, PowerPoint, and ExcelEffective communication skills, verbal, written, and interpersonalAbility to plan, schedule, and organize workAbility to effectively handle multiple tasks concurrentlyEssential Job Functions
Manages and supervises the day-to-day activities of the acquisitions department, including ordering, receiving, and maintaining the list of available resourcesDevelops and formulates rules and regulations, adhering to high-quality standards that ensure the smooth flow of the acquisition departmentImplements strategies to ensure professional developmentManages expenditures and plans budgetsInterviews, recruits, and recommends hiring of acquisition staff members; trains staffOrganizes, manages, and delegates the workload ensuring that the goals and objectives of the University are achievedWorks closely with librarians on the acquisition of materials to support the University curriculumServes as a consultant for faculty and staff in the acquisitions of departmental resourcesQualifications
Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited schoolTwo (2) years’ experience providing library instructionThree (3) years’ professional experience in the field of Library and Information ScienceDemonstrated experience using current educational technologies and multimedia tools to deliver or enhance teaching, learning, and/or user services in both physical and online environmentsPhysical Requirements
