The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.77 - $30.20/hour.

Full Salary Range:

The full salary range for this position is $25.77 - $43.58/hour. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

We administer federal, state, and university aid and scholarship programs in accordance with applicable policies and regulations while striving to be an innovative and service-minded department.Brief Summary of Job Duties:The Basic Needs Specialist reports directly to the Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing Manager. UCSB Basic Needs programs and services are constantly developing and expanding critical new efforts to support student basic needs. The Basic Needs specialist works in a dynamic setting to support critical basic needs work. This position would support the Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing manager not only in existing efforts but also new initiatives and programs. The Basic Needs Specialist supports the administrative, communication and programmatic needs of the Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing Manager. As Basic Needs encompasses a variety of campus stakeholders this role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. During peak seasons basic needs programs can be impacted, and the basic needs specialist would provide programmatic support to ensure timely response for applicants as needed. This includes but is not limited to the Halal Kosher Grocery Program, the Undocumented Students Grocery Program, the Basic Needs Technology program and more. Maintains a broad and functional understanding of basic needs programs at UCSB. Responsible for keeping current knowledge of issues impacting basic needs programs in higher education and UCSB campus. Maintains knowledge of student populations most likely to be impacted by food and housing insecurity in higher education. Provides programmatic support for basic needs and rapid rehousing pilot program initiatives, such as coordinating partners meetings and related tasks that arise from mapping the needs of new projects. Supports the implementation of new projects in the pilot phase. Assists with processing, communications efforts, and other tasks related to successful pilot initiatives. Identifies challenges within new projects and works with the Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing Manager to address these. Supports current programs during peak seasons by communicating with participants about program updates, processing inventory needs, delivering program materials such as food, laptop devices and other items from storage areas to key basic needs access hubs across campus. These programs include but are not limited to the Undocumented Students Services Grocery Voucher Program, the Basic Needs Technology Program, the Halal and Kosher Grocery Program and others. Serves as a direct contact for programs as needed to support students experiencing a basic needs challenge as efficiently and timely as possible. Advises and counsels students in basic needs programs and steps to access resources on campus and in the community specific to the student's needs. Uses critical skills such as communication, problem solving and analysis to best support students in need in urgent cases that require quick action and/or referral to other basic needs support programs. Maintains access and an understanding of systems such as Gaucho Blue, zones, key basic needs program information and other systems as needed in order to best support the Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing Manager. Participates and contributes to several campus wide basic needs committees, including the Direct Services Committee, Financial Wellness Committee and the Basic Needs Technology Coalition. Participates in larger stakeholder initiatives such as campus quarterly Basic Needs All Partners Meetings. As opportunities arise, participates and represents UCSB in other committee spaces for UC Office of the President, state, and federal program partnerships. Provides administrative support such as booking space reservations, other logistical support and documenting/ note taking as needed for committees and events. Streamlines communication efforts amongst programs (new and existing) as needed. Presents information about basic needs programs and services at UCSB to campus partners, committees, students, community members and other stakeholders as needed.35% Administrative Support and Communication -

Communicates with partners across campus and within the community regarding basic needs programs, events and opportunities to partner on new initiatives and existing programs. Communicates with new and existing vendors to understand pricing and products, relays information to partners as needed and identifies recommendations for new purchases for basic needs programs or rapid rehousing legislative funding. Maintains an understanding of UCSB systems for procurement, flex card and Concur. Assists with scheduling for the Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing Manager and programs including committees, partner meetings, event planning and more. Provides general support in the onboarding of new student staff to basic needs programs, sends information about training opportunities, schedules general program training meetings and introductory meetings to existing partners. Supports the planning and coordination of events Basic Needs team members will participate in such as the Enrollment Services Fair and other outreach efforts, that may require purchasing, outreach material creation and more. Serves as an additional back up for basic needs space access in times of staffing shortages such as the Food Security and Basic Needs Advising Center, Sustainability Center, and other basic needs support spaces open to the public.15% Development / Grants Support/ Reporting -

Provides support to the Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing Manager in drafting, gathering data, reviewing and submitting proposals for both internal and external funding opportunities. Assists in reporting requirements outlined by UC Office of the President for Basic Needs State Funds and Rapid Rehousing Legislative funding. Supports the Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing Manager in preparation and submission of reports annually, as well as data collection and other preparation throughout the academic year. Coordinates meetings with representatives from the Office of Development to ensure timely submission of development reports describing donor funded projects. Supports the tracking and database maintenance and documentation of donor funded initiatives.10% Budget -

Maintains working knowledge of current Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing budgets for UCSB funded programs and projects, campus allocations and updates therein. Supports the Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing Manager in monitoring of expenses, and tracking programmatic spending. Provides support to Basic Needs and Rapid Rehousing Manager and other key personnel for fiscal closing tasks.5% Other -
