Responsibilities:

Under direct supervision of the professional staff the Patient Care Tech, Critical Care Stepdown performs certain non-complex duties related to patient care and the functioning of the unit. The Patient Care Tech, Critical Care Stepdown functions to support the staff assisting with clerical duties along with delivery of patient care to varied age groups while providing a calm, caring and clean environment.Essential Functions:The Patient Care Tech assists other members of the healthcare team to deliver safe, appropriate, and quality patient care.Assists with or provides basic nursing care in order to help the nurse meet the activities of daily living for the patient.Assists with patient mobility needs including turning, positioning, transferring, and ambulation of patients as directed, using appropriate and proper body mechanics and assistive devices.Maintains safe patient environment.Responds to emergency situations within the scope of their training and performs under the direction of the nurse.Performs vital signs, including use of automatic blood pressure machine as directed by nursing staff.Under the direction of the nurse, provides basic skin care to prevent skin break breakdown and maintain or improve skin integrity.Answers call bells and responds to patient requests within their scope or communicates patient needs to the nurse.Transfers and moves patients via wheelchair, bed, or stretcher to appropriate locations within the hospital.Possesses and demonstrates working knowledge of equipment in order to ensure a safe environment.Maintains open communication with department staff and accepts direction to ensure a safe environment.Understands and respects patients' rights to privacy and dignity in order to maintain patient confidentiality.Ensures that equipment and supplies considered essential are functional, safe, and readily accessible in order to provide a safe environment.Performs department specific maintenance duties as appropriate to department.Acts as a patient advocate to ensure safe, appropriate, and quality patient care.Adheres to standards of practice for infection control and universal precautions.Schedule:
