ABOUT USApex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility.

Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, Apex for Youth creates transformative social connections and celebrates cultural identity to build the confidence and self-efficacy of future generations.Apex serves approximately 2,000 students annually from Kindergarten through their post-secondary years. We provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models.JOB OVERVIEWApex’s Elementary Enrichment Department addresses the educational, social, and emotional needs of elementary students through out-of-school enrichment programs, family nights, and community events. Programs take place on Saturdays from October – May. Elementary also offers summer programming during July – August. These programs are run by staff with support from volunteers.The Coordinator will support our Saturday Elementary Explorers Programs located in Chinatown, Manhattan, in addition to all other programming that serves students and families enrolled in the Elementary Enrichment programs. This role will support Elementary programming in Manhattan and support Apex’s overall growth in the area. This position will report to the Manhattan Elementary Program Manager.RESPONSIBILITIESProgram Support (50%)Assist with on-site logistics, including space set up and break down, student arrival and dismissal, snack distribution, material prep, and transitions between programs;Facilitate weekly Saturday sessions for a classroom of students and volunteers at PS 2 in Chinatown;Address behavioral issues and support volunteers in the classroom throughout the session;Support the development and execution of a workshop curriculum that ensures an impactful experience for youth and volunteers;Document all communication in Salesforce and update attendance data after sessionsCollaborate with the Brooklyn Elementary Program Coordinator to manage the Elementary volunteer intake and placement process;Support program managers with volunteer orientations and trainings;Partnerships & Events (20%)Support strong, collaborative relationships with partner schools and organizations;Support recruitment, intake, and enrollment of youth from partner schools and organizations into programming;Communicate with parents/guardians, volunteers, and school staff about students’ performance and progress throughout the program to strengthen relationships;Assist with the planning for and occasionally run Elementary community events, including Family Nights, field trips, and the annual holiday party, book fair, and field day.Other Duties (5%)Support, and in some cases manage a high-school or college-level internAttend all program meetings, as necessaryPerform other duties as requiredQUALIFICATIONSBA or BS preferred (in lieu of a 4-year degree, GED and 3 years of experience in a social service or community organization required)Experience working with youth and facilitating classes or workshops required; experience with Elementary School youth preferred1+ years of experience in a social service or community organization setting preferredStrong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to create genuine relationshipsStrong organizational skills, including attention to detailAbility to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilitiesProactive nature and self-starter, ability to problem-solve autonomously;Positive and bright disposition with a “can do” attitudeAbility to work on Saturdays, and take Sunday-Monday as the weekendSpoken fluency in Mandarin and written competency in Chinese preferred but not requiredSalary range : The salary range for this position is $53,000 – $58,000, depending on experience.Overview of BenefitsPaid time off:

In the first year of employment, employees are eligible for approximately a combined 40 days of vacation, holiday, personal, and sick leave (10 vacation days, 12 paid holidays, org-wide closures for one week over the winter holidays and one week during the Fourth of July, 5 sick days per year, 3 personal days a year). Additional vacation days accrue according to years worked in the organization.Medical and other benefits:
