Row New York is a sports-based youth development non-profit organization founded on the premise that the discipline and teamwork that rowing instills, when combined with rigorous academic support, has the power to change lives. At full capacity, our Youth Program serves over 250 high school student-athletes from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. It is a year-round rowing and academic program with a goal of ensuring that 100% of our young people graduate high school and matriculate to college or begin an alternative post-secondary plan. In addition, we offer rowing to New Yorkers of all ages who are either people with physical or cognitive disabilities, military veterans, or local community members. Lastly, Row New York offers summer camps and a fee-for-service rowing program for New York City independent high schools. Our programs are offered at two rowing sites: Upper Manhattan and Flushing Meadows Corona Park.Position Summary

Row New York seeks an enthusiastic and committed Manhattan Program Assistant with strong leadership ability to lead small and large groups in our after-school academic program for the 2024-2025 academic year. The Student Support and Success (SSS) Program meets three to four days per week (Monday – Thursday) for two hours each day during the school year. The Program Assistant will have the opportunity to assist in the facilitation of these workshops and to support students throughout the year. This is an opportunity to develop teaching and mentoring skills with middle school and high school youth. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in youth development, education, or nonprofit management. Undergraduate and graduate students as well as retired individuals are encouraged to apply. Participation in staff training prior to the start of the assignment is required. The Program Assistant will have time each week to complete any program preparation or administrative work.Key Responsibilities

Assist the Manhattan SSS Program Coordinator with facilitation of workshops and implementation of Row New York’s selected after-school curriculum; substitute as workshop facilitator as needed.Establish an environment that promotes and is conducive to learning and academic success.Model positive behavior and leadership at all times.Provide necessary support with homework and exam preparation.Work closely with the Manhattan SSS Program Coordinator to achieve established academic/SSS goals and outcomes.Provide reports on student progress and feedback on programming on a weekly basis.Provide administrative and programmatic support to the Manhattan SSS Program Coordinator.Qualifications

Availability to work scheduled program hours from Monday – Thursday each week during the school year from September 2024 to June 2025.Completed at least two full semesters in an accredited college or university program.Relevant work or volunteer experience working with youth in an educational or athletic environment.Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.Demonstrated ability to interact with staff and participants from different backgrounds; sensitivity to the dynamics of serving a racially and economically diverse student population.Reliable self-starter with a solutions-oriented, can-do attitude.Understands and appreciates the benefits of positive reinforcement, consistent behavior management practices, social-emotional learning, and culturally responsive and relevant practices; willingness to carry out this philosophy.Fluency (spoken and written) in Spanish a plus.Preference will be given to alumni of Row New York’s youth programs.Salary Range
