A law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced Energy Counsel with substantial expertise in Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) energy regulatory proceedings and extensive experience supporting a variety of energy transactions, including oil, gas, and power (both renewable and traditional). The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in contract drafting and review, with additional international experience in infrastructure projects and complex settlement agreements being a plus.Key Responsibilities:

Provide legal counsel and representation in Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) energy regulatory proceedings.Support and advise on varied energy transactions, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Transportation Service Agreements (TSAs), open seasons, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and regulatory diligence.Draft, review, and negotiate complex energy transactions and infrastructure project contracts.Conduct thorough legal research and analysis, offering insightful and strategic advice to clients.Prepare and review settlement agreements, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.Collaborate with clients and internal teams to guide regulatory and compliance matters in the energy sector.Manage and resolve disputes, including representing clients in hearings and other regulatory proceedings.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state energy regulations and policies, advising clients on changes or developments.Foster strong relationships with clients through effective communication, interpersonal skills, and a deep understanding of their business needs.Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Admission to the District of Columbia Bar, active and in good standing.Significant experience in FERC energy regulatory proceedings.Proven track record supporting energy transactions, including PPAs, TSAs, open seasons, M&A, and regulatory diligence.Strong contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills.International experience in infrastructure projects and settlement agreements is highly desirable.Excellent legal research and analytical skills.Exceptional persuasive writing abilities and the capacity to produce precise, concise legal documents.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients and internal teams.Deep knowledge of federal and state energy regulations, particularly those governed by FERC.Ability to handle complex legal issues with a strategic and solution-oriented mindset.Strong attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Proficiency in legal research tools and technologies.Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership and initiative.
