The Cleveland Orchestra (TCO) is seeking a
Senior Major Gift Officer – South Florida , who will engage prospects, donors, and other members of the community in philanthropic support of The Cleveland Orchestra, with an exclusive focus on the South Florida supporters of TCO’s Florida/Miami Residency.
This is a fully remote position, with the expectation that the Senior Major Gift Officer (SMGO) will be resident in South Florida.
This individual will work to increase the donor base and build a robust pipeline of individual and institutional South Florida donors by actively managing a donor portfolio, qualifying new donors, making discovery calls, and building a pool of new prospects and past donors above the $2,500 level. The SMGO identifies, cultivates, and solicits prospects through personal visits, direct mail, written and phone communication; and leads the planning for direct philanthropic mail and communications in South Florida. In addition, this position acts as the staff liaison to the Florida Advisory Board and supports the VP of Growth Initiatives in the development and implementation of TCO’s South Florida strategy.
Responsibilities include the following:
Portfolio and Program ManagementManage leadership level donors and sponsors ($2,500 and above) with a special emphasis on moving donors in South Florida from under $2,500 annual giving to major gifts (individuals, corporations and foundations) of over $25,000.Grow and manage a personal portfolio of 100+ major South Florida donors.Articulate the value of supporting the goals and mission of the institution, with a special focus on the Orchestra’s presence in South Florida.Lead the prospecting and qualification process to identify and cultivate new individual and institutional (corporate, governmental, foundation) donors in South Florida.Develop and implement strategies to solicit major donors, subscribers, and community members through personal visits, email, direct mail and telephone contact.Manage, with the assistance of Development Operations staff, all Broadbase fundraising campaigns and Stewardship Communications.Monitor and manage fundraising metrics including revenue and expenses, for Miami/South Florida.Work closely with the CDO, the VP of Development, and the Events team on executing stewardship efforts, engagement activities, and special fundraising initiatives in South Florida.Work closely with the VP of Growth Initiatives on developing and implementing an integrated South Florida strategy geared towards long-term growth and financial sustainability.Lead the creation, execution, and assessment of stewardship benefits for South Florida portfolio donors.Administrative Duties
Maintain data integrity of portfolio, including entering and updating prospect and donor contact reports, plans screens and proposals in the Tessitura database according to established protocols.Work with Development Operations to review and update accurate listings of donors of the Florida/Miami Residency for various publications including the program book.Manage direct mail campaigns in coordination with operations, communications, and broad base giving teams.Respond to inquiries and donor communications.Attend concerts and events in Miami, Palm Beach, Naples or other South Florida locations, and when appropriate, nationally, and internationally, in support of cultivation / fundraising activities.The SMGO will be expected to travel to Cleveland approximately four times per year.Act as staff liaison to the Florida Advisory Board, including but not limited to advocacy activities, community engagement through recruitment of new members, as well as lead peer solicitation initiatives.Work collaboratively with P&A colleagues to deliver focused engagement opportunities.The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study required10+ years of experience in non-profit fundraising in a complex institutionKnowledge of the Miami and South Florida social and philanthropic environmentDemonstrated interest in classical music and/or performing artsWillingness to travel to Cleveland and other locations nationally and/or internationallyStrong knowledge and application of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies and techniques requiredExcellent verbal and written communication skillsKnowledge of spoken and written Spanish desirableDemonstrated independent, mature judgmentAbility to be discreet and maintain a high degree of confidentialityOutstanding organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to consistently maintain a professional image and demeanorStrong problem-solving skills combined with a collaborative approachProficient with Microsoft Office and able to learn and use various database and planning softwareAbility to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekendsWe offer a competitive salary, outstanding medical and dental plan benefits, 403(b) plan with employer match, generous paid time off, and the opportunity to work with a world-renowned Orchestra.
