Caterpillar Inc. seeks a Senior Data Specialist at its facility located at 540 W Madison St., Floor 3, Chicago, IL 60661. This technical resource is involved in data quality, data design, metadata management, and data governance of Caterpillar’s digital offerings.
Responsibilities:
Perform necessary data-related tasks including data design, data quality, metadata management, data governance, or data architecture.
Work directly on complex problems and provide solutions aligned with overall objectives of Cat digital.
Understand and evaluate business requirements impacting the Caterpillar enterprise, dealership partners, and other internal and external customers.
Liaise with data creators to support project planning, training, and guidance on standards.
Contribute to policies, procedures, and standards as well as technical requirements.
Create the data management strategy and define continuous improvement goals of data quality, governance, and processes.
Lead communication across various lines of businesses and technology partners.
Ensure compliance with the latest data standards supported by the company.
Maintain knowledge of functional technology of the data management systems.
Design robust, scalable database and data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) solutions.
Document data models for domains to be deployed.
Develop data ingestion store specifications identifying source systems.
Develop data object pipeline specifications including detailed field level mapping.
Create, update, and enhance metadata policies, processes, and catalogs.
Drive alignment and coordination of data governance efforts.
Perform other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management.
Minimum Requirements:
This position requires a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of experience with Data and Analytics or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with:
Data profiling tools such as Alteryx;
Data cataloging tools such as Collibra;
Data technology products and components for big data and cloud (AWS, data lakes, and similar);
XML and JSON file formats;
SAS programming skills and use of SAS-pc;
Software development with object-oriented scripting languages: Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, Scala, etc.;
Object-oriented concepts/development/modeling.
Travel:
Up to 20% (domestic).
Telecommuting:
up to 4 days a week.
