We are seeking a dynamic and experienced urban planner to join our team and ensure that sustainable development and excellent built form outcomes are achieved in our Town.This challenging and rewarding role will undertake significant planning projects and assessments together with providing leadership, support, and guidance to applicants, mentoring and leading urban planners and internal stakeholders.Key Responsibilities:Guide developers through the application process, ensuring compliance and high-quality outcomes.Champion the preservation of our town's cultural heritage and built environment, integrating conservation principles into planning decisions.Engage with community stakeholders to ensure their input shapes development.Impact the Town’s local planning framework to deliver outcomes identified in the Council’s strategies and plans.Provide professional and timely advice, guidance, and information on various planning issues to a range of stakeholders.Ensure the Town constantly works to deliver sustainable town planning outcomes.Assist in the coordination of work for the Urban Planning team.Provide supervisory and mentoring roles for the planners at the Town.Skills & Experience:The ideal candidate will have:Relevant tertiary qualifications within Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent).National Police Clearance (less than 6 months old).Sound knowledge of the current WA Planning Framework.Experience dealing with complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.A proven and natural leadership approach; ability to lead, work collaboratively, and build positive working relationships.Ability to communicate complex information clearly and succinctly.Excellent attention to detail.Ability to apply analytical thinking.Sound negotiation skills.Demonstrated understanding of high-quality Customer Service principles.A minimum of 3 years' experience in urban and regional planning in Local or State Government is preferred.Experience in attending hearings and meetings such as State Administrative Tribunal, Development Assessment Panels or similar is preferred.This role attracts a competitive salary range of $94,000 - $106,000 (pro-rata for part-time) per annum dependent on qualifications and experience, along with a wide range of benefits.Benefits:Flexible work arrangements including hybrid working from home, part-time work, and a 9-day fortnight.Superannuation co-contribution (subject to individual contribution).17.5% leave loading.Two extra days of leave each year (Local Government holiday).Wellness programs, including an Employee Assistance Program.We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce.
