About Nourish Pierce County:

Incorporated in 1982, Nourish Pierce County (formerly FISH Food Banks of Pierce County) mission is to provide nutritious food and support service referrals to people in need with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Nourish serves more than 30,000 individuals each month at 21 different locations, including 6 brick and mortar food banks, and 15 locations served by our award-winning Mobile Food Banks. With the assistance of more than 1,000 volunteers, our goal is to provide each person or family with enough food to make three nutritious meals a day for three days. All Nourish Food Banks operate on a self-serve model, allowing clients to select the foods that best meet their family’s needs. Clients are asked to limit their visits to once a week, but no one in need is turned away.

Director Of Special Projects Job Description

Nourish seeks a highly skilled and experienced Director of Special Projects to join our team. This individual will play a critical role in overseeing and managing all special projects within our organization. The Director of Special Projects will be responsible for planning, implementing, and executing a wide range of initiatives that align with our strategic goals and objectives. This is a leadership position that requires exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of driving successful project outcomes and possess the ability to work cross-functionally with various teams and stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Duties

Develop and lead the organization's special projects strategy in alignment with company objectives.

Plan and execute projects from initiation to completion, ensuring on-time delivery, within budget, and meeting quality standards.

Identify project goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) in collaboration with stakeholders.

Monitor and track project progress, providing regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.

Manage project budgets, resources, and timelines, making adjustments as necessary to ensure successful project outcomes.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, deliverables, and milestones.

Develop and implement project management methodologies, tools, and best practices to improve project efficiency and effectiveness.

Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project risks.

Foster effective communication and collaboration among team members and stakeholders to ensure project success.

Evaluate project performance and identify areas for improvement, implementing corrective actions as needed.

Specific Program Responsibilities

Administer and manage the following programs:

Development of a new marketplace concept food bank by working with the CEO and architects. Conduct research and provide recommendations on layout & design as well as inventory management, online ordering, and guest check-out systems.

Farm to Food Pantry

Culturally Responsive Foods

Wrap Around Services

Outreach Program Meal packing events

Extending Nourish branding into existing locations

Partner with the Director of Operations to develop short-term and long-term staffing plans

Collaborate with the Director of Operations, and Volunteer Coordinator to conduct training, including but not limited to customer service, safety, etc.

Essential Competencies

Must be able to perform basic math skills.

Must be able to read, write and communicate orally in English.

To Drive Nourish Vehicles

Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s license.

Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record.

Must be able to pass pre-employment and periodic drug screening.

Must be able to bend, stoop, sit and lift overhead.

Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a broad and diverse audience including staff, volunteers, clients and vendors.

Demonstrated success in working collaboratively as part of a team.

Demonstrated computer and mobile phone literacy required, including text messaging; ability to make and receive telephone calls; ability to use the Internet to search and obtain information; sending and receiving email via browser or MS Outlook, using MS Teams.

Must provide accurate and timely written or verbal information when requested by phone, over email, or as part of regular reporting requirements.

Must be able to communicate detailed information clearly in person, in writing, by phone, and by email.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.

Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

Strong business acumen and understanding of project management principles and methodologies.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work independently.

Some weekend and evening work may be required.

Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.

Must be able to sit or stand for four or five hours at a time.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

Proven experience as a project manager or director of special projects, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.

PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is preferred.

A Sigma Six Green belt or above is preferred (or willing to obtain).

Experience working in cross-functional teams and managing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Demonstrated success in delivering projects on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards.

Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

Strong business acumen and understanding of industry trends and best practices.
