Postdoctoral position – NCAR

MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention, Los Angeles, California, United States,

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the area of marine ecosystem and biogeochemistry modeling. The postdoc will work with a team of scientists at NCAR, DOE, and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography to develop a food web model for the California Current Ecosystem. The overarching objectives are to enable robust predictions of marine ecosystem dynamics in the context of climate variability and change. The model will be developed in a new framework called the Marine Biogeochemistry Library (MARBL), which is a code base designed to be independent of a particular ocean circulation model. The postdoctoral scholar will work in close collaboration with scientists affiliated with the California Current Ecosystem LTER (http://cce.lternet.edu) and have access to the high-performance computing environment at NCAR.Minimum Qualifications:Candidates must have a Ph.D. in oceanography, physical, biological or chemical sciences, engineering or applied math.Experience doing research in fields relevant to ocean biogeochemistry and/or ecology is required.Marine ecosystem and oceanographic modeling experience is highly desirable.A demonstrated ability to work across physical and biological disciplines is preferred. For further information please contact Matthew Long, NCAR/CGD, (mclong@ucar.edu).
