Entry-Level Criminal Defense Attorney

A law firm is seeking an Entry-Level Criminal Defense Attorney to join their team in Bakersfield, CA. Reporting to the Managing Criminal Defense Attorney, the successful candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:Job Overview:Manage a caseload and client interaction.Collaborate with the Criminal Defense Team of Attorneys and legal assistants.Responsibilities:Advise clients on their legal rights in matters and draw up legal documents related to their cases.Attend pretrial hearings on behalf of clients and advise clients following each hearing about best strategies.Manage court appearances, trials, drafting motions, interviewing witnesses, and performing legal research.Analyze probable outcomes of cases using knowledge of legal precedents.Manage workload of cases effectively.Provide legal analysis for clients to determine any possible case benefits.Accrue additional evidence to support clients' cases or for arguments against the prosecution's charges.Prepare clients for depositions; determine essential goals of case strategy and gather information from witnesses and important experts that support clients' positions.Demonstrate interest in Criminal Defense law from Law School clinics, volunteer work, or internship experience.Requirements:Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.Active Bar admission (law graduates awaiting admission will also be considered).Demonstrated interest in Criminal Defense law from Law School clinics, volunteer work, or internship experience.Record of moving legal cases forward and ability to manage a caseload.Excellent legal research and analytical skills.Strong communication and negotiation abilities.Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.Interpersonal skills of the highest caliber.Education:Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.Certifications:Active Bar admission (law graduates awaiting admission will also be considered).Skills:Excellent legal research and analytical skills.Strong communication and negotiation abilities.Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.Interpersonal skills of the highest caliber.Proficiency with Case Management Software (preferred).
