Department of Public Health
(DPH)
is recruiting for a
Supervising Public Health Nurse (SPHN)
who will supervise nursing and other personnel in special County-wide programs. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for ensuring excellent nursing and evidence-based practice, while optimizing resources for achieving individual and community health outcomes. The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies within DPH as they occur. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Travel/Driver License:
Travel throughout the County is required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation. Pre-Employment Process:
Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening. Visa Sponsorship:

Additional training/coursework may be required. Public Health Nurse Certification:
RNs
must
possess a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Nursing to apply for California Public Health Nurse certification.
Applicants who do
not
possess a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Nursing at the time of application submission will be disqualified. Licensure/Certification:
Applicants
must
possess and maintain
all
of the following items: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CA BRN), Valid Public Health Nurse (PHN) certificate issued by the CA BRN, Valid Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate. Experience:
Option 1:
Eighteen (18) months of full-time equivalent experience as a certified PHN Option 2:
One (1) year of full-time equivalent nursing experience working in a home health or home visiting setting as a licensed RN
AND
eighteen (18) months of certified PHN experience Substitution:
A Master's Degree in Nursing or Public Health may be substituted for one (1) year of the required Public Health nurse experience. The ideal candidate will possess: Supervisory and administrative experience Experience with community health and/or home visitation Excellent knowledge and competency with the scope and standards of public health nursing practice, including both individual and population-based assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, assurance and evaluation Expertise with quality assurance and process improvement Strong skills in leading and supervising multidisciplinary staff Competency in serving diverse cultural communities Exemplary written and oral communication skills A Master's degree (or higher) in Nursing, Public Administration, or Business Administration Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation. There will be a
