Department of Public Health (DPH)
is recruiting for
Public Health Nurses I (PHN I)
who provide assessments of individuals, families and communities. Duties include: Intensive case management Coordinating and assisting with access to care Developing treatment plans Providing consultation on medical, dental and behavioral health assessments Acting as a nurse liaison with public and private agencies Providing assessments and referrals for school district students Conducting disease control measures Vacancies exist throughout
Family Health Services (FHS)
and
California Children's Services (CCS)
sections in DPH. Incumbents in this classification are eligible for auto promotion to Public Health Nurse II upon successful completion of a trainee period and satisfactory work progress report. The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies within DPH as they occur. Human Resources is also accepting applications for
Public Health Nurse II . A separate application is required. It is to your advantage to apply for both levels as appropriate. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Travel/Driver License:
Travel throughout the County is required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation. Pre-Employment Process:
Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening. Visa Sponsorship:

Additional training/coursework may be required. Trainee Period:
Public Health Nurse I must be promoted to journey-level classification upon successful completion of the trainee period (e.g., preceptorship, orientation, and/or certification, as applicable), or be terminated. Refer to the

for additional information. Public Health Nurse Certification:
RNs
must
possess a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Nursing to apply for California Public Health Nurse certification. Applicants who do
not
possess a
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Nursing
at the time of application submission will be
disqualified . Applicants
must
meet
all
of the following
licensure
and
certification
requirements: A valid Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CA BRN) A valid California Public Health Nurse certification issued by the CA BRN A valid Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate Experience working with pediatric populations which includes enhanced care management experience, certificate or training and the ability to use social determinants of health in developing care plans and interventions is highly desirable. Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation. There will be a
