The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a “pool” of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.Duties and Responsibilities
Teach Commercial Music classes as assigned from the regular Music Department curriculumConsult with students during regularly scheduled office hoursMaintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologiesPerform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs.Minimum Qualifications
Possession of any Bachelor’s degree
AND
two years of professional experience in Commercial Music
OR
any Associate degree
AND
six years of professional experience in Commercial Music
OR
the equivalentDemonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice both within and outside of the classroomKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
Recent successful experience in teaching or preparation to teach college-level courses in Commercial Music topicsAbility to communicate fluently and effectively orally and in writingDesire, ability, and vision to help develop and foster a dynamic music departmentUnderstanding and commitment to the role and purpose of the community collegeKnowledge of the use of technology in teachingAbility to use and develop teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and engage students actively in learningAbility to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiencesAbility to develop instructional learning outcomes and to develop methods for assessing student’s achievement of these outcomesAbility to organize and teach both theoretical and practical applications of the subject matter in ways appropriate to students’ abilitiesAcceptance of the division’s commitment to established academic standardsCommitment to the SMCCCD goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculumWillingness to work with faculty and staff in a spirit of collegiality at department, division, college and District levels.EEO Statement
