Psychiatry (Medical Director) Opportunities – Boston’s North Shore!!

Health System seeks a Medical Director to provide clinical and strategic leadership for all psychiatry services within the agency. This is an opportunity for an energetic clinician with leadership skills and experience to serve in an exciting and critical organizational role. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Medical Director will be responsible for managing all psychiatry services provided by six of the agency’s divisions, providing a senior clinical voice to the organization, and ensuring smooth and patient-centered, mission-focused psychiatric services.The Medical Director will work with the CFO and COO to ensure the cost-effective utilization of resources and optimal reimbursement for psychiatry services provided by the Health System. The Medical Director will directly supervise all medical staff including the Associate Medical Director(s), Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Practitioner/RN, Registered Nurses, and Licensed Practical Nurses. The Medical Director will also work with the Vice President of Clinical Services to establish quality improvement metrics, benchmarks, and other initiatives.The Medical Director is expected to:Provide clinical leadership in psychiatry for the Health System.Serve as a change agent within the Health System and in the communities it serves.Serve as inspiration for, and support the creativity of the psychiatric staff.Provide input and leadership in reviewing and assessing practitioner productivity and implementing improvement strategies.Analyze and utilize data to improve patient care and outcomes.Allocate practitioner resources to ensure access to care in an expedient manner and within contractual and regulatory requirements.Participate in the delivery of clinical care.The Medical Director needs to be skilled at:Integrating the clinical, financial, and operational aspects of providing psychiatric services.Developing and implementing a variety of process improvement strategies.Analyzing data on a variety of indicators.Working collegially with the Vice Presidents, Program Directors, and the Executive Team.Effectively communicating at all levels.Requirements:

Board Certified Psychiatrist (Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry strongly preferred). A track record of demonstrated accomplishment in a community-based, culturally diverse, mission-driven behavioral healthcare setting is essential. He/she should be a visionary change agent who is mission-driven and demonstrates analytical and strategic skills. The Medical Director should be an inspirational and creative leader who is committed to excellence, possesses strong verbal and written communication skills, and has high regard for psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, advance practitioners/RN, nurses, and support staff. He/she should be fair-minded, value diversity of opinion, and be comfortable sharing power and decision-making in order to achieve common ground.Description of services for Medical Director of Emergency Services Programs (ESP) Psychiatrist/Medical Director: This board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrist shall be responsible for clinical and medical oversight and quality of care across all ESP service components. This individual shall coordinate the functions of his/her ESP medical director role, the psychiatric care delivered by him/herself and/or other psychiatric clinicians during business hours, and the after-hours psychiatric consultation function fulfilled by him/herself and/or other psychiatric clinicians.The Medical Director shall be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with medical providers and other stakeholders in the catchment area, including medical directors at local outpatient, diversionary, and inpatient services programs, hospital emergency department (ED) physicians, and primary care clinicians. This individual shall be available for clinical consultation to ESP staff members and community partners.The Behavioral Health Emergency Services Division includes:4 ESP’s covering over 35 cities and towns in greater Merrimack Valley and North Shore areas.3 Community Crisis Stabilization units (CCS), each 6 beds with 3-5 day LOS, voluntary, hospital diversion, daily prescribing rounds done usually by APN’s in collaboration with the medical director.ESP must provide urgent access to psychopharm evaluations for members within each service area.The Medical Director is a ¾ time position and can be/should be combined with a ¼ time outpatient position as staff psychiatrist.The role would involve a face-to-face presence at least one day per month at each of the 4 sites.Provide Urgent Psychopharm on a scheduled and on an as-needed basis.Provide 13 weeks of on-call psychiatrist coverage in a rotation.Attend regularly scheduled meetings with our key stakeholders in conjunction with the program directors.Provide clinical case conference consultation one time per week at one of the sites.Attend ESP Divisional staff meeting at least once per month.HOSPITAL & LOCATION:

Hospital is a full-service, 221-bed, community hospital providing quality, patient-centered care to NorthShore and Cape Ann residents. The hospital has a medical staff of more than 570 physicians and its service area includes some 13 communities.The hospital is financially stable, modern - with many recently completed building projects under its belt - and offers a friendly, collegial working environment where everyone is accessible and the physicians' input is solicited and considered on matters large and small.
