The ACLU Foundation of San Diego & Imperial Counties (ACLUF-SDIC) seeks an Accounting and Business Manager.The ACLUF-SDIC is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) civil liberties and civil rights organization working to advance equality, freedom, and justice through public education and litigation.POSITION SUMMARY:The Accounting and Business Manager is responsible for performing the timely and highly specialized accounting work required to accurately maintain the organization’s complete financial records. This role supports the organization’s strategic goals by serving as the lead staff person responsible for the execution of the accounting functions in accordance with GAAP and assisting the organization’s operations and HR functions and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:Responsibility for all aspects of the monthly accounting cycle which includes:Accounts payableCash receiptsAccounts receivableExpense reportsBank and credit card reconciliationsDepartment budget reportsSemi-monthly payroll and retirement processingMonth and year-end closePetty CashAssist in preparation of the 990 filings.Complete for review 1099s and 1096sCoordinate the budget process.Produce financial reports as requested by executive team.Update quarterly investment charts for board meetings.Update Consolidated Charts composed of monthly trends, revenue & expense, liquid assets, and net operating income prior to each board meeting.Maintain files and comply with record retention requirements.Responsibility for fundraising reconciliation with national database and the Philanthropy Department which includes:Monthly and annual reconciliation of fundraising gifts with national database and Philanthropy DepartmentProcessing credit-card gifts and depositing giftsDevelop and maintain internal controls as applicable in a small office environment.Assess current practices and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.SPECIFIC HR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:New staff orientation and training on HRIS, expense reimbursement, and vendor form useAudit payroll and personnel databases for completeness and accuracy.Provide support to staff and HR consultant in various HR-related topics such as leave and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise.Maintain employee files and records.Review staff time off requests and reconcile sick and vacation balances.Respond to state requests (EDD, withholding requests) and set up payments or payroll changes as requested.Updates the HRIS in respect to performance management – view and produces reports, and/or maintains HRIS records.Analyze timesheet entries for preparation of schedules for quarterly lobby reports.QUALIFICATIONS:Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of and commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and the organization’s mission.Personal integrity, ability to maintain confidentiality.Prior work in foundation and 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations preferred.Experience with monthly financial accounting cycle including payroll processing.Exceptional attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks and finish projects within deadlines.Excellent organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal skills.Highly self-motivated, organized, dependable, and adaptable.Experience working with computer programs, such as Microsoft Office and QuickBooks.Ability to work with diverse communities.NICE TO HAVE:Not-for-profit audit experience for financial statements, workers compensation, retirement processingExperience with HRISExperience preparing lobby reports for state and county.Demonstrated awareness of one’s own cultural identity, views about differences, and the ability to learn and build on varying cultural and community norms.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to exchange accurate information, detect/identify documents and the information contained in them, move between areas in and out of the office to complete their role.Hybrid Working:The ACLUF-SDIC is headquartered in San Diego, California, though employees have hybrid schedules that allow for remote work.Compensation:Salary Range: $72,500 – $108,000Excellent benefits include four weeks paid vacation; 18 office holidays; medical and dental insurance for staff members and their families; life and long-term disability insurance; and 401(k) plan with employer match.What Now?Please submit a cover letter explaining your interest in and qualifications for the position as detailed in this announcement, a current resume, and names and contact information of three professional references (including at least one supervisor).However, hard-copy applications can be mailed to:Deputy DirectorACLU Foundation of San Diego & Imperial CountiesP.O.
