About the Job

Summary of Position:Summary: Coordinate and oversee research on projects related to Muscle and Drug Discovery, involving spectroscopic probes of muscle protein molecular dynamics. Publish papers and assist with grant writing.

Spectroscopic probes of protein structural dynamics, drug discovery to treat diseasea.

Muscle calcium release channel Ryanodine Receptor, muscle (heart and skeletal) and brain diseaseb.

Muscle calcium uptake pump SERCA, muscle (heart and skeletal) diseasec.

Kinase mechanisms, cancerHelp coordinate and oversee projects involving spectroscopic probes of protein molecular dynamics, including the coordination of experiments, analysis of data, and reporting of the projects. Projects include a wide range of techniques including molecular biology, protein expression and purification, and spectroscopy (including EPR and fluorescence). Initial work will focus on a small number of topics, expanding in scope with time and experience.

Biophysical Technology Center:Train users on new techniques, including EPR and stopped-flow kinetics. Coordinate training, instrument maintenance, and trouble shooting.

Presentations, reports, publications, grantsPresent work at weekly group meetings and monthly one-on-one meeting with supervisor. Publish papers based on results of research.Assist with grant applications for the group.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:PhD in Biophysics, biochemistry, or related fieldStrong publication record

Preferred Qualifications:Experience with stopped-flow kinetics, EPR, and other spectroscopic techniques preferred.

BMBB:The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics.

We organize ourselves into research divisions with emphases on Chemical and Structural Biology, Metabolic and Systems Biology, Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology. We are housed in new buildings with state-of-the-art research and support facilities.
