Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Pending any course assignment, initial placement can range as follows: Lab Course - $75.48 up to $103.03 per hour. Lecture Course - $87.88 up to $118.85.Position Type:

Part-Time Faculty, TemporaryThe Position:The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Interior Design. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges' commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.This position is a 'pool' position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a 'pool' of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Canada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.Duties and Responsibilities:Teach classes as assigned; possibly day, evening, and weekends, from the regular Interior Design Department curriculum.Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours.Maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies.Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs.Teach kitchen and bath courses in the Interior Design program.Teach advanced concepts of kitchen and bath systems, including construction elements, HVAC and plumbing, and practical applications for interior designers.Minimum Qualifications:Possession of any Bachelor's degree AND two years of professional experience OR an Associate degree AND six years of professional experience OR the equivalent. All course work must be from an accredited college or university.Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Recent, successful experience in teaching college level courses in interior design for the interior design field and first-hand knowledge of and work experience in the interiors industry.Knowledge of successful teaching techniques and teaching experience in the discipline (community college level preferred).Recent successful experience in the development and update of interior design curriculum.Understanding and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college and awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges.Ability to use and develop teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and engage students actively in learning.Ability to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences.Ability to organize and teach both theoretical and practical applications of the subject-matter in ways appropriate to students' abilities.Commitment to the SMCCCD goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculum.Excellent communication skills and an understanding of the career options in the emerging field of interior design.Ability to work with an interior design advisory board and business/industry, and a commitment to advise and place students in appropriate work experience sites.Evidence of organizational skills.Certification by the State of California in Interior Design.Demonstrated currency in the field of interior design through professional membership in one of the interior design organizations; i.e., IDEC, ASID, or IIDA.Experience using a computer to prepare correspondence, memoranda and other written materials.Benefits:Academic employees participate in the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), a defined-benefit retirement plan through the State of California.To apply, visit:
