Under the guidance of the Head Coach, the Swim Team Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Competitive and/or Recreational Swimming Program following the YMCA Philosophy, Aquatic Guidelines, and the YMCA Competitive Sports Guidelines. The Assistant Coach will help implement instruction to swimmers throughout the swim season and during swim clinic, supporting the YMCA vision to strengthen the foundations of the community through programs for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.Minimum Requirements:Minimum age of 16Background in competitive swimming either as a coach or swimmerAbility to effectively communicate1 year of coaching experience with various ages helpfulExcellent teaching skills with expert knowledge of training and stroke developmentExemplify YMCA ideals, leadership qualities, and a professional imageAbility to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the communityYMCA Leader certification preferred (within 1st 90 Days)YMCA Swim Instructor Certification and/or YMCA Lifeguard CertificationMust pass a pre-employment criminal background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle recordWithin 30 days of hire, complete Child Abuse Prevention, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens trainingResponsibilities:Able to teach all groups by facilitating a training and/or practice plan as developed by the Head CoachHelp in evaluating swim team members' individual goals; provide individual and team feedback for improvement and recognitionSupport volunteer recruitment, parent and swimmer communication, and provide input on team roster and meet lineupsSupport community involvement, fundraising efforts, and eventsMaintain records of achievements, progress reports, and skill developmentAttend meetings as scheduledRepresent the YMCA at meets, various community events, and meetingsResponsible for the safety of all participants at all timesMaintain current knowledge of emergency procedures; report incidents in a complete and timely mannerPromote the team philosophy and foster a positive and friendly practice environment for athletes in the water consistent with the YMCA MissionOther duties as assigned by supervisorLEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES (Leader):CollaborationCommunication & InfluenceDeveloping Self & OthersEngaging CommunityWork Requirements & Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather). While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.
