Med-Medicine - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh (24002895)The Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division of the DOM is hiring for a Lab Research Technician. The division is led by division chief Alison Morris, MD and Executive Administrator Emily Joseph. The division consists of approximately 70 clinical staff and over 100 research staff who work in various locations including Bridgeside Point, Biomedical Science Tower (BST), and UPMC Hospitals including Presbyterian, Shadyside, East, Jameson, and Mercy. The division provides world-class services across 10 inpatient services at five hospitals and over 70,000 outpatient office visits. We have a significant research mission that focuses on basic, clinical, and translational research on the lung, microbiome, COVID-19, sleep medicine, and allergy and immunology.The incumbent will carry out cell culture/bioengineering experiments supporting key research projects in the lab including the development/applications of the Next-Generation Lung-on-a-Chip and ECM MV-Chip technologies as well as aspects of Down syndrome pathophysiological modeling using the Vascular-on-Chip microfluidic device. A successful applicant will be a graduate of bioengineering, biological science, or related fields who is prepared for a high-paced scientific environment. Little to no work experience is required. The applicant is expected to have basic knowledge in cell culture and cell biology, be highly motivated, collaborative, and possess good communication skills.Job SummaryPerforms laboratory testing and analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment, maintains inventory, and assists with ordering.Essential FunctionsSupporting in collecting and analyzing research data.Performing cell biology, molecular biology, and chip fabrication and cellularization.Working closely with lab members.Physical EffortStanding for up to 8 hours, working in wet bench lab space, ability to receive and move deliveries to the lab, and ability to follow all necessary research and operation protocols.The University of Pittsburgh is committed to championing all aspects of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within our community.
