Pasco County Building Inspections is currently seeking a Chief Field Inspector - Mechanical. This role involves supervisory work in the inspection and plans examination of mechanical and gas installations. The employee works with considerable independence in directing work activities, subject to general advice and supervision from an administrative superior. Work is performed in accordance with trade practices for adherence to established code.

Responsibilities:Supervises plans examination and inspection of mechanical and gas installations and construction to ensure compliance with plans and specifications and adherence to laws, ordinances, and regulations.Personally performs plans examinations and makes preliminary, final, and periodic inspections for conformance to minimum standards, codes, and ordinances.Receives complaints of violations and inspects same. Secures evidence of violations.Prepares and presents cases of violation of mechanical and gas regulations.Advises and consults with contractors, builders, installers, and homeowners.Keeps operational, plans examinations and inspection records, and makes reports; supervises training and work distribution of mechanical inspectors.Conducts trainings for subordinates.Assists mechanical/gas inspectors/plans examiners in solving difficult inspections/plans examiner problems.Performs special inspections and investigations.Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:Knowledge of codes, laws, and regulations affecting mechanical and gas installations.Knowledge of the methods and practices involved in construction, installing, maintaining, and operating a variety of mechanical and gas installations; equipment; and appliances.Knowledge of possible defects and faults in mechanical and gas systems and of standard testing devices and effective corrective measures.Ability to plan, organize, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of subordinates.Ability to perform inspections and investigation of work.Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports and papers.Ability to enforce regulations with firmness and tact.Ability to work with contractors, builders, installers, and the general public.Skill in the use of standard tools, equipment, and testing devices.Ability to operate a CRT keyboard.Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications of mechanical and gas installations.

Physical Skills and Working Conditions:Ability to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Requires working indoors and outdoors. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle to visit job sites. Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, and climb to make inspections. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

Education, Training and Experience:Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Ten (10) years' experience as an architect, engineer, inspector, contractor, or supervisor of construction in the trades of mechanical and gas, including five (5) years of experience in responsible supervisory work. Three (3) years' experience as an inspector.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must possess a Standard certification in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, as a limited or standard licensed Mechanical Inspector and Mechanical Plans Examiner.
