* JOB SUMMARY* The KDMT EMT Basic position involves transferring patients safely to and from private individual's homes, nursing facilities, and hospitals. Responds to emergency call to provide efficient and immediate are to the critically ill and injured, and to transport the patient to a medical facility.
* DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS* Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
* Transports patients to and from private individual's homes, nursing facilities, and hospitals. Follows instructions from dispatcher/call-taker and safely drives ambulance to specific locations. Preforms efficient route management and correspondence with dispatch teams, while maintaining privacy of patient information.
* Conducts daily vehicles and maintenance inspections prior to beginning route. Ensures vehicles and equipment is clean at all times. Replenishes medical equipment and supplies as needed.
* Administer medical treatment and transport sick or injured persons to a medical facility or between medical facilities.
* Remove or assist in removal of a patient from the scene of an accident or incident. Determines the nature and extent of a patient's illness or injury and establishes treatment.
* Assist treatment center admitting personnel in obtaining record information related to patient's vital statistics and circumstances of transfer.
* EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS* Minimum requirement:* High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
* Completion of an approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program.
* Achieves and maintains active State of Kentucky EMT certification.
* Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
* Current valid Driver's License
* Completion of annual emergency vehicle operators course.
* Preferred qualifications:* State of Ohio EMT certification
* National Registry for EMT certification
* WORKING ENVIRONMENT* Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
* Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.
* Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
* Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
* The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
* PHYSICAL DEMANDS* Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
* Frequently required to walk and move about.
* Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
* Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
* Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
* Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
* Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
* Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
* Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
