The Black to the Future Action Fund

( B2F ) is a 501(c) 4 that works to transform Black communities into constituencies that build independent, progressive, Black political power in cities and states. We work to enact policy that improves the lives of Black people. We work to ensure that Black people have what all people deserve–dignity, safety, and power.To make Black communities powerful in politics, Black to the Future Action Fund:Listens to Black voters and understands their needs.Builds the capacity of the Black organizing infrastructure to ensure that our needs determine the outcomes of elections.Enacts policy changes that change the balance of power in cities and states.B2F engages Black voters through polling, door-to-door conversations, and digital engagement to understand what they care about and what motivates them to vote. B2F is committed to building power – and that requires that we have organizations that can effectively and strategically engage our communities and win victories that improve our lives. B2F also engages Black voters all year round in our priority states.B2F will build on the momentum of the Black Census Project, the largest survey of Black people in the history of the United States. The information gathered from the Census is used to identify priority issues for Black communities, inform public policy, and share policy agendas that are created for Black people, by Black people.Black to the Future Action Fund is hiring a Managing Director to join the organization during a time of pivotal growth. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director, the Managing Director is a skilled organizational strategist and leader. They are responsible for overseeing the successful implementation of B2F’s vision, mission, and long-term goals and strategies. The Managing Director also plays a key role in fundraising for B2F and Our Future is Black PAC.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Organizational Leadership

Develop and execute organizational strategies for B2F and the PAC.Oversee developing and implementing strategic political plans that work to change the balance of power in favor of the needs of Black communities.Mapping changes in the political landscape.Building and monitoring legislative relationships.Provide high-level strategic advice to Executive leadership on the long-term strategy of the 501c4.Oversee and grow the budget of the 501c4.Recruit and engage B2F funders.Provide timely reports on B2F and PAC programming to our funders.The aforementioned responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. B2F employees may also be assigned duties for Black Futures Lab, B2F’s separate, sister organization.Candidate Profile

While no one candidate will possess every quality outlined for this position, a successful candidate will bring many of the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:Strategy and vision - A track record in developing electoral campaigns for progressive, social justice or related organization(s).Organizational mindset & leadership – Experience modeling a high bar for performance and demonstrated strategic planning skills, including an understanding of organizational, communications, political and policy elements.Interpersonal communication - Superb interpersonal skills, with an impressive history of forging strong relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders.Engagement - Experience working with political organizations and public officials and an inherent understanding of how to build and engage with Black voters.Lived experience – Lived experience working within Black communities and/or deep knowledge of the political history of Black people.Judgment and trust – Integrity, coupled with outstanding judgment and decision-making skills. An ability to be honest about your opinions, share challenges appropriately with leadership, and balance competing demands to make well-informed and strategic decisions.Political & movement orientation - You consider yourself to be part of the progressive movement, interested & immersed in the social and political landscape.In addition, ideal candidates will offer:At least 5 years of experience in racial justice, economic justice, or gender justice.At least 7 years of experience in political campaigns, with electoral experience being key. Experience with legislative campaigns or ballot initiatives is also beneficial, but not required.At least 5 years of management experience, with at least one year in a senior leadership role.At least 3 years of experience in developing an organizational budget, with fundraising experience to support it preferred, but not required.Expertise in strategic planning and execution, organizational development, and staff management.Experience working across departments or teams within an organization.Experience working with a PAC.Ability to drive project and programs to completion in a complex environment.Proficiency with ActBlue, VAN, EveryAction, and phone/text banking tools.Excellent writing and communication skills.Ability to be results-focused, organized, and drive work forward independently.Flexibility and willingness to have a rigorous travel schedule.Pay for this position is commensurate with experience and responsibilities. The estimated salary range for this position is $150,000 - $175,000. This position comes with medical and dental benefits.Work is conducted remotely and office hours are 10 am - 6 pm local time.
