Through a collaborative leadership network, HHC addresses core issues affecting underserved communities. HHC programs and campaigns support solution-driven community organizing led by today’s young leaders.Our mission is to use the power of our cultural expression to empower communities who are first and worst impacted by injustice. Our members, as well as our dedicated national team, span the country and globe. We are multiracial and we center our work in communities of color. We span Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X, and we come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Our vision is for racial justice, healthy communities, and a healthy planet.Throughout our history, HHC has mobilized hundreds of thousands of young BIPOC voters across seven election cycles, producedHOME (Heal Our Mother Earth) – the first climate album to move over 60,000 people to action in support of the Clean Power Plan in 2014, and led the firstprotest in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and continually partnered with local organizations for annual commemorations.In 2021, our community took over 2.1M actions on climate justice withThink 100% including petition signatures, EPA comments, event participation, social media post engagement, and more. We played an influential role as a national partner to the local Memphis community in the cancellation of the Byhalia Pipeline. We alsoraised and distributed $100,000 in direct relief to families affected by Hurricane Ida across 12 parishes in Louisiana.OurRespect My Vote! Campaign developed a free resource for people with a felony record and their loved ones to check their eligibility to vote based on state legislation; since its launch, the tool has been used over 100,000 times. In 2022, we completed two successful voter registration and mobilization tours, mobilized 375,000 Black voters to the polls, and contacted 750,000 people ahead of the midterm elections.Our breadth of accomplishments reflect our principled approach to organizing, advocacy, and campaigning. HHC pioneers culture and narrative to expand our impact, shows up with direct relief and continued solidarity with communities being harmed by systemic injustices, and builds nonpartisan democracy by engaging voters year round.As an institution built by and for people and communities of color, we are rooted firmly in the belief that racial justice and climate justice are interwoven.As the HHC approaches its 20th anniversary, we are looking for an experienced Deputy Development Director to bolster the organization’s fundraising capacity at an exciting moment in its growth trajectory.The Deputy Development Director will play an integral role in the oversight of departmental operations and high-level strategic functions, supporting the organization’s Hip Hop Caucus Education Fund, a 501(c)3, and the partner Hip Hop Caucus Action Fund, a 501(c)4. They will also support as a thought partner with the HHC’s executive leadership, requiring solid internal communications and collaboration.Key areas of focus and responsibilities of the Deputy Development Director will include:Operational Leadership

Oversee moves management tracking and revenue reporting for our portfolios/overall development reporting for the organizationSupervise the documentation, tracking, and management of all prospects, generating status reports, trend analysis, and revenue projections through the EveryAction databaseConstantly assess and measure the department’s processes and systems and proactively work to align processes and the team, and build new process or infrastructure when gaps existFundraising and Relationship-Building

Maintain and strengthen relationships with external funders through meetings, correspondence, and regular communicationSupport the cultivation and stewardship of critical institutional and individual prospects by other members of the senior staff, participating in each step of the donor pipeline, and maintain the team’s list of prospects, donors, and partners for regular correspondence and engagement at high-level eventsCoordinate unique donor-led fundraising activities with regional supporters, giving circles, and third-party supporters (progressive bloggers, influencers, etc.)Write all types of donor communications as needed, including correspondence, proposals, pitches, reports, summaries, and presentations.Directly oversee and support the Development Coordinator in effective grants administration, reporting, correspondence, and database managementManage a team of external grant writers, helping to ensure alignment of messaging and ensuring that proposals are thoughtfully developed, reviewed, and submitted on time with all supporting materialsInternal Communications and Collaboration

Collaborate with colleagues across departments to enhance donor relationships, creating greater fundraising and outreach possibilitiesOversee the monthly reconciliation, grant record keeping, and other key work in collaboration with the Finance departmentSupport in the development of messaging strategies for donors and prospects, at times in partnership with the Storytelling & Communications divisionCandidate Profile

The ideal candidate possesses the following professional and personal qualities, skills, and characteristics:Experience with institutional giving, including securing gifts at the $250K+ level, and ideally within an advocacy organizationUnderstanding of both c3 and c4 environments and compliance requirementsStrong systems and process framework, with ability to organize and collaborate in the interest of ensuring that robust grants management processes are leveraged across teamsAbility to craft compelling donor outreach communicationsExperience directly managing and developing team membersTechnical fluency in utilizing spreadsheets and databases, ideally with EveryAction or a similar constituent relationship management software. Excel and Google Suite experience requiredKnowledge of how to manage grant applications and reportingMajor giving experience a plus, but not requiredThe salary range for this role is $95,000-$109,000, and the final salary will be based on experience and qualifications. HHC also offers a comprehensive benefits package. The HHC team has a remote culture, with physical offices in Los Angeles, CA and Washington, DC.
