Assistant Attorney GeneralLabor Section ~ Kansas CityThe Missouri Attorney General's Office is actively seeking attorneys with excellent credentials for an Assistant Attorney General position in the Labor Section in Kansas City. The attorney's primary practice will be workers' compensation defense for claims filed by state employees and defense of Missouri's Second Injury Fund. Applicant may also represent the State in criminal proceedings in workers' compensation fraud and noncompliance cases. This practice includes interacting frequently with the state risk-management agency for workers' compensation, reviewing investigations, conducting and defending depositions, conducting administrative law hearings, mediating and otherwise resolving claims by settlement, prosecuting and defending appeals before the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission and the state's appellate courts, and some general counsel work for boards and commissions.
The position may involve intermittent daytime or overnight travel within Missouri.

Preferred experience/skills:
Courtroom and trial experience
Handling pre-filing investigation, discovery, motion practice, and depositions
Drafting documents and correspondence
Resolving claims by settlement
Administrative practice
Familiarity with state court rules and procedures
Commitment to public service
Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy
Health, vision, dental, and life insurance plans, state pension, and deferred compensation available.
Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Missouri. Candidates with relevant experience and education will be considered for an interview.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
