Consumer Protection Section - Kansas City

The Missouri Attorney General's Office is actively seeking attorneys with excellent credentials for an Assistant Attorney General position in the Consumer Protection Section in Kansas City.

The Consumer Protection Section handles some of the Office's most complex and high-profile civil litigation and criminal prosecutions. Its attorneys prosecute white collar crime charging deceptive business practices under the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act as well as stealing, financial exploitation, securities fraud, and identity theft at the state level. Attorneys also bring civil enforcement actions and seek restraining orders, injunctions, and restitution to protect the health and safety of Missourians, penalize violators, and get relief for victims of fraud. The Section also conducts investigations at the state and multistate-level, often in connection with other State Attorneys General offices and federal partners. The Section handles matters in the areas of privacy, non-profit and charity fraud, No Call/telemarketing, and antitrust.

The position may involve intermittent daytime or overnight travel within Missouri.

Preferred experience/skills:

Courtroom, grand jury, and trial experience

Handling pre-filing investigation, discovery, motion practice, and depositions

Drafting civil petitions and criminal charges

Resolving claims by settlement

Familiarity with state court rules and procedures, including bankruptcy

Commitment to public service

Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy

Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Missouri. Candidates with relevant experience and education will be considered for an interview.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
