GENERAL SUMMARYCCD's nursing programs are designed to create competent, ethical, and confident health care practitioners in an innovative, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. The Director of Nursing Education Program (DNEP) at CCD functions within the mission, philosophy, and procedures of the college, the policies of the Colorado Community College System and standard of the State board of nursing. Plans, organizes, and supervises CCD’s Practical Nursing (PN) Program, the Integrated Nursing Pathway (INP), the Nurse Aide Program, and the future LPN to BSN program.
The Director of Nursing position is an administrative position. The Director holds a 12-month appointment. This position is full time and will be eligible for all benefits associated with a full time, 12-month position.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIESProvide overall supervision and direction for Nursing Education Programs at the College.Recruit and select Faculty for employment, design and monitor development plans for Faculty, conduct performance reviews of Faculty, and participate in Faculty promotion and retention.Demonstrate leadership within the faculty for the development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum and other Nursing Education Program components.Develop and coordinate the use of educational facilities and clinical resources.Insure and document the Nursing Education Program’s compliance with the Nurse and Nurse Aide Practice Act, the Board’s Rules and Regulations, and all other state or federal regulations.Identify and advocate for services needed by students in the Nursing Education Program.Participate in the budget planning process for and administering the Nursing Education Program budget.Act as liaison with the Board of Nursing.Provide a current written job description to the Board for all Faculty positions.Develop and maintain ongoing relationships within the community, including fostering the Nursing Education Program's responsiveness to community/employer needs.Participate in activities that facilitate the DNEP's professional expertise in the areas of administration, teaching, and maintenance of nursing competence.Determine the need for additional Faculty release time for administrative duties.Annually review and recommend for approval contractual agreements with each clinical facility.Schedule and conduct regular, meaningful Nursing Programs Advisory Board and departmental meetings and assure active participation.Maintain nursing program quality such that students pass the NCLEX licensure examinations at rates above the state and national averages.Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment, and assure departmental facilities, instructional equipment, and supplies are up to date and adequate for Nursing Programs.Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Health Sciences.
Service to the CollegeParticipate in faculty meetings, chair meetings, chair council, center meetings, and other inter-collegiate committees as necessary.Participate in college-wide committees and special functions.Participate in extracurricular activities that enhance the students, the profession, and promote the program and the college.Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Health Sciences.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Education: (required/minimum)Master of Science Degree in Nursing from a Nursing Education Program with national nursing accreditation.
Licensure/Certification:An active Unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in Colorado.
Experience: (required/minimum)Documented knowledge and skills related to teaching adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation.Two years of full-time, or equivalent, clinical experience as a practicing registered nurse.Two years of full-time, or equivalent, experience in teaching in an approved Nursing Education Program. Such experience must be at or above the level of the Nursing Education Program the individual will be directing.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Demonstrated leadership, management, and organizational skills.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.Demonstrated experience in supervising and training staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.Ability to work with people from varied backgrounds and situations and is sensitive to individual differences. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.Skills in programmatic budget preparation and fiscal management.Ability to plan, organize, implement, evaluate, and modify instructional and administrative support needs related to nursing programs and assess those needs.Ability to direct and facilitate the planning, development, and administration of nursing education programs, enrollment management, and assessment of student learning.Knowledge of nursing simulation best practices and student services.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education: (Preferred)A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:Two (2) years supervisory experience.Experience with nursing program accreditation.Experience working with the State Board of Nursing.Evidence of demonstrated leadership in a diverse, collaborative and innovative setting with community college experience.Experience working as a Practical Nurse.
