Department of Agriculture , Animal Industry Division.Salary: $6,177 to $8,793 per month (SR 26, Step D to M)Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.This position is located in the Livestock Disease Control Branch, Animal Industry Division of the Department of Agriculture, and is responsible for conducting medical, scientific, and regulatory activities in the detection, control, and/or eradication of animal diseases, including executing USDA-Hawaii Department of Agriculture Cooperative Agreement Work Plans.Duties and responsibilities include:Planning, scheduling and conducting veterinary field work in connection with State and cooperative State-Federal-Industry animal disease control and eradication programs;Responding to calls from practicing veterinarians, livestock and poultry producers for assistance in investigating disease outbreaks;Enforcement of regulations, including those governing interstate and inter-island movement of animals;Implementation of emergency disease control plans and other program activities;Performing other related duties as assigned.This position requires inter-island and out-of-state travel; and may be required to work overtime, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:State of Hawaii Veterinarian License:

Applicants must possess either:

1)

a valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Hawaii; or

2)

a valid temporary permit to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Hawaii, provided that a permanent license is obtained within the six-month probationary period.Note: Applicants who do not currently possess a permanent license or temporary permit to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Hawaii may also apply. If you are selected for a position, the temporary permit must be obtained before starting employment, and a permanent license must be obtained within the six-month probationary period.Veterinary Experience:

Applicants must possess TWO (2) YEARS of responsible professional veterinary medicine experience.Examples of qualifying professional veterinary experience are as follows:Detection, eradication, and control of animal diseases through diagnosis, treatment, quarantine, and established testing protocol.Inspection of meat and meat products intended for human consumption, including evaluation of disease problems and sanitation.Study of the preventive control of animal diseases transmissible from animals to humans.Postgraduate research work that has demonstrated the ability to perform independent research in the field of veterinary medicine.Veterinary quarantine work concerning rabies control.Substitutions Allowed:A master's degree in a pertinent veterinary field from an accredited four-year college or university may be substituted for one year of Veterinary Experience.A Ph.D. degree in a pertinent veterinary field from an accredited four-year college or university may be substituted for two years of Veterinary Experience.Driver's License:

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license

at the time of appointment .Physical Ability:

Applicants must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and objects weighing over 40 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.Other Requirements:Must pass annual Medical Evaluation to use a respirator as required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).Must be able to wear safety shoes as required and other required personal protection equipment as necessary.This position requires inter-island and out-of-state travel; and may be required to work overtime, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.The information provided above represents a
