Description
The School of Contemporary Arts at Ramapo College of New Jersey seeks to hire a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor to join its team of interdisciplinary arts and design faculty beginning September 2024. The successful candidate will teach courses that support the intersection of design, animation, and emerging technologies for students within both the Electronic Art & Animation and Visual Communication Design programs. The multi-disciplinary program seeks to enrich students with the ability to apply advanced tools progressively in a socially and culturally diverse environment, emphasizing theories and practices within a liberal arts context. The new faculty member will support curricular development in collaboration with other faculty and must demonstrate an active and ongoing creative/scholarly agenda including in emerging technologies. It is expected that the new faculty member will be engaged as an advisor and mentor, and support students with professional preparation within a liberal arts context. The successful candidate will teach 6 undergraduate courses during the academic year while fostering a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment that engages diverse learners.Examples of Duties
Responsibilities:Teach core Visual Communication Design and Electronic Art and Animation courses to undergraduate majors including a range of courses at the 200 and 300 level within both programs.Preferred areas of specialization may include: Traditional 2D Animation, Digital 2D Animation, Augmented/Virtual Reality, Application Design and Development, Print and Web-based Design, Human Centered Design, Advanced Compositing, Experimental Animation, Intermediate CG including Character Rigs and Motion Capture, time-based emerging technologies, Motion Graphics, UI/UX Design, and emergent forms of publishing.Cultivate development of instructional programs and knowledge of trends, pedagogy, andragogy, and new technologies.Be actively committed to advancing Equity and Access in the classroom and contributing to advancing a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion at the college in all areas.Qualifications
Required:MFA or terminal degree in Design, Animation, Time-Based Media, or related fields.Proven effective track record of teaching at the undergraduate level (3 years).Demonstrated proficiency in industry-standard digital applications. Candidates must show evidence of a range of advanced skills/practice, articulate discourse, and knowledge of design history and contemporary critical issues.Interest in curricular development is expected, as our curriculum responds to evolving pedagogical needs in the discipline.Capability of teaching at all undergraduate levels.Preferred:A creative practice that is socially engaged.Experience in user-centered design practices.Expertise in Current and Emerging Technologies.Exhibition record of contemporary time-based media.Experience in multi-disciplinary collaboration.Experience with innovative teaching methodologies, team teaching across diverse disciplines, and incorporating technology into teaching and learning.For more information, please click the following link:
