DescriptionABOUT RAMAPO COLLEGE:
Ramapo College of New Jersey (RCNJ) develops ethical leaders who serve as change agents across all sectors. Since its inception, the School of TAS has been committed to excellence in teaching, research, and public service in the sciences and mathematics, and has sought to prepare its graduates not only for professional and academic careers but to be scientifically literate citizens and lifetime learners in an increasingly complex and ever-changing technological culture.
The School of TAS offers 14 undergraduate programs across mathematics, science, and nursing, and eight graduate programs, including a Doctoral program in Nursing Practice, structured to meet the requirements of national accreditation standards as well as the needs of the contemporary marketplace and community.
Examples of DutiesPOSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:This is a full-time, managerial position, and days of work and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Note: This position is in the “NL” category of employment (non-fixed work week) and individuals in this role have no claim or entitlement to time off or cash compensation for hours worked beyond their normal schedule. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
JOB SUMMARY:The Deans are responsible for strategic thinking, creatively and innovatively advancing the mission of the College as well as the overall operation of their respective School. As such, they are the overall academic leaders and administrators within their Schools and are of major importance to the College. The Deans report directly to the Provost/Vice President for Teaching, Learning and Growth.
DUTIES:
Develops, articulates, and presents the vision for the School.
Coordinates in collaboration with the Provost and other key stakeholders to share best business practices.
Applies competencies to oversee the development and coordination of course schedules.
Prepares reports, plans, and analyses to document and advance School activities.
Actively represents the unit and the College to various constituencies.
Provides guidance and curricular leadership in relation to College-wide goals.
Leads in the development of research initiatives.
Connect with local and regional leaders and College alumni.
Anticipates change and develops new curriculum.
Strengthens the College’s commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence.
Ensures documented School, program, and course assessment.
Mediates between students, faculty, and parents.
Supervises the operation of labs and other academic spaces.
Responsible for people operations/human resource management of School faculty and staff.
Responsible for all fiscal matters at the School level.
Participates in College-wide strategic planning activities.
Actively participates in Deans Council meetings.
Collaborates with Faculty Assembly and its leadership.
Collaborates with various divisions for unit-alignment.
Engages in maintaining and expanding links with the community.
Supervises articulated and joint programs.
Oversees School-wide grants and programs.
QualificationsREQUIREMENTSEDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:The successful candidate will possess a PhD or equivalent terminal degree and academic and scholarly accomplishments meriting appointment to the rank of Professor or Associate Professor with tenure. A minimum of five years of experience is preferred.
