POSITION DETAILS
Located in the storied and resilient borough of The Bronx, Lehman College reflects the rich diversity that characterizes CUNY and the City of New York. The College serves more than 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students across 140-degree programs, plus 13,000 students in certificate and workforce development programs. Many of the Lehman faculty are also members of the doctoral faculty at CUNY’s Graduate Center and STEM faculty mentor over 40 doctoral students in Lehman laboratories. Over fifty percent of Lehman undergrads have household incomes of less than $30,000; 80 percent are students of color; and 45 percent speak a language other than English at home. Nearly seventy percent are female and the median age is 25.
The Dean provides the academic and administrative leadership for the undergraduate and graduate programs of the ten academic departments within the School of Natural and Social Sciences (NSS): Anthropology; Biological Sciences; Chemistry; Computer Science; Earth, Environmental and Geospatial Sciences; Mathematics; Physics and Astronomy; Political Science; Psychology, and Sociology. The Dean reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Success and serves on the Extended Cabinet of the President and a member of the Provost's and Deans' Council.
Responsibilities:
Provide visionary and strategic leadership for the School of Natural and Social Sciences.
Advance faculty recruitment, high quality teaching, faculty research, professional development and mentoring from the point of hire through the tenure and promotion process.
Support department chairs by fostering innovative, best practices focused on mission refinement, articulation of scholarship expectations, and enhancement of student success strategies across the school.
Foster academic planning and innovative curricular development.
Encourage research grants; expand revenue streams and public/private partnerships.
Ensure effective management of financial resources including budget planning and management.
Chair monthly meetings of the School Executive Committee and communicate regularly with department chairs and school faculty and staff.
Strengthen partnerships with schools, corporations, and various institutions and organizations to stimulate new areas of research and scientific discovery.
Develop a plan in collaboration with the Division of Institutional Advancement and with input from NSS faculty to enhance engagement with alumni and secure funding.
Provide leadership in the development of inter-professional education and practice.
Collaborate closely with the vice president of enrollment management, vice president of student affairs, and other school deans to advance college strategic initiatives and student success.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. An earned doctorate in one of the disciplines within the School; a record of academic achievement in the discipline meriting appointment as a tenured full Professor; University teaching experience complemented by a superior research and scholarly record; a record of proven leadership and administrative experience related to the work of the School; demonstrated engagement with and success in obtaining federal, state and private grants; experience in fiscal affairs, faculty and staff development, and promoting university and community relations; and evidence of a strong commitment to the goals of urban, public higher education serving diverse populations.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic, innovative, and proven academic leader who is able to work collaboratively with faculty and staff on the development of a shared vision across a wide range of academic disciplines.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range: $170,000-$195,000. CUNY's benefits contribute significantly to total compensation, supporting health and wellness, financial well-being, and professional development.
