POSITION DETAILSThe Dean of the School of Education (SOE) oversees the undergraduate and graduate programs of the school and three academic departments: Early Childhood & Childhood Education, Middle & High School Education, and Counseling, Leadership, Literacy, and Special Education. The dean also has responsibility for three centers and institutes: The Bronx Institute, The Center for School/College Collaboratives, and The Institute for Literacy Studies. The Dean collaborates with other CUNY campuses and the New York City Public Schools to develop new school-based programs, implement CUNY initiatives, and promote educational equity and student achievement.The Dean reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Success and serves as a member of the President’s Advisory Board and the Provost’s and Deans’ Council.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESLeads the school by building a vision that encompasses new realities and possibilities in collaboration with faculty, administration, and other members of the Lehman community.Oversees the compliance and renewal of national accreditations for the certified programs offered in the College.Fosters continuous improvement through the culture of assessment, program and curricular review, existing program revision, and new program creation.Ensures adherence to the expectations of institutional, professional, and programmatic organizations.Leads fundraising efforts for the School of Education to diversify and increase resource streams.Stimulates and supports excellence in teaching, faculty research, publication, and practice.Oversees enrollment, retention, and graduation initiatives.Manages the school’s operating budget and financial planning.Pursues collaborations with stakeholders and constituents.QUALIFICATIONSThis position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.An earned Doctorate in one of the disciplines or interdisciplinary areas of study within the School of Education; record as an outstanding leader within a higher education system; proven leadership and administrative experience; extensive knowledge and experience in urban education; demonstrated success in obtaining grants; and the ability to collaborate effectively.ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIESKnowledge of promoting academic excellence and the career and social/emotional success of students.Experience with linguistic, ethnic, and cultural diversity.Experience with collaborative inquiry and shared decision-making.Ability to advance a vision and strategy for growing programs.Experience with engaging and empowering students.Evidence of collaborative leadership style.Commitment to educating and fostering an inclusive community.CUNY TITLEDeanCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS$145,000-$183,000; salary commensurate with education and experience.
