Dean of the School of Education (SOE)POSITION DETAILSThe Dean of the School of Education (SOE) oversees the undergraduate and graduate programs of the school and three academic departments: Early Childhood & Childhood Education, Middle & High School Education, and Counseling, Leadership, Literacy, and Special Education. The dean also has responsibility for three centers and institutes: The Bronx Institute, The Center for School/College Collaboratives, and The Institute for Literacy Studies. The Dean collaborates with other CUNY campuses and with the New York City Public Schools to develop new school-based programs, implement CUNY initiatives, and promote school counselor, administrator and teacher quality, educational equity, and student achievement.The Dean reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Success and serves as a member of the President’s Advisory Board and a member of the Provost’s and Deans’ Council.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESLeads the school by building a vision that encompasses new realities and possibilities in collaboration with faculty, administration and other members of the Lehman community.Oversees the compliance and renewal of national accreditations for the certified programs offered in the College.Leads and fosters continuous improvement through the culture of assessment, program and curricular review.Ensures that unit and program level quantitative and qualitative data are collected and analyzed regularly.Ensures adherence to the expectations of institutional, professional, and programmatic organizations.Leads fundraising efforts for the School of Education.Stimulates and supports excellence in teaching, faculty research, publication, and practice.Oversees enrollment, retention and graduation initiatives.Manages the school’s operating budget and financial planning.Pursues collaborations with stakeholders and constituents.QUALIFICATIONSThis position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.An earned Doctorate in one of the disciplines or interdisciplinary areas of study within the School of Education; record as an outstanding leader; record of academic achievement; University teaching experience; proven leadership and administrative experience; extensive knowledge and experience in urban education; demonstrated success in obtaining grants; fiscal affairs experience; experience with education policies focusing on social justice and equity; successful record of building partnerships; ability to collaborate effectively; demonstrated effectiveness in a multi-cultural environment.IDEAL CANDIDATE SKILLS AND COMPETENCIESKnowledge of promoting academic excellence and social/emotional success.Experience with linguistic, ethnic, and cultural diversity.Experience with collaborative inquiry and shared decision-making.Experience with advancing a vision and strategy for growing programs.Experience with increasing institutional resources.Experience with enhancing faculty and staff excellence.Evidence of collaborative leadership style.Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse community.Leadership skills in recruiting and retaining faculty and staff.Commitment to shared governance.CUNY TITLEDeanCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS$145,000-$183,000; salary commensurate with education and experience.
