Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.DEPARTMENT : Anchorage Health Department (AHD)HOURS OF WORK : Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some weekends are required.LOCATION OF WORK : 825 L StreetThe Public Health Nurse (PHN) provides evidence-based, population-based, comprehensive public health nursing services to address community needs including communicable disease control and prevention, epidemiological investigations, immunizations, obesity, reproductive health needs, family planning, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) screening, treatment, and education. Provides community education on health topics. Educates and provides direct health care services to vulnerable and at-risk populations in the clinic and in the community. The PHN works in partnership with individuals, communities, groups, organizations, and systems to improve health. Through the Core Functions of Public Health (Assessment, Policy Development, and Assurance), the PHN intervenes at all levels of prevention to safeguard the health and safety of the population in the community. Perform other related duties as assigned.The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (AHD) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD's Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster, AHD employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery.Minimum Qualifications:Associate degree in nursing and experience in public or private health care.Current acceptance and enrollment in a Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science (RN-to-BSN) bridge program from an accredited college or university.ORBachelor’s degree in nursing and experience in public or private health care.All applicants must possess or obtain:Valid State of Alaska driver's license

by the time of hire .Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse License by time of hire

OR

if an applicant is not currently licensed in Alaska, a temporary Alaska Nursing License must be obtained

by the time of hire . ( Regular license must be obtained within 180 days of hire.)Current American Red Cross / American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or the equivalent

within 90 days of hire.AHD HIPAA certification

within 30 days of hire.Satisfactory background clearance to access the Highland Mountain Correctional Center

within 30 days of hire.Preferences:Certified in Public Health (CPH).Family Planning Health Worker Certification (FPHW).CDC Immunization & Training Certificate.Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.The Municipality of Anchorage participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security E-verify Program.If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400).In addition to the MOA background check, the successful applicant will need to complete a satisfactory background clearance to access the Highland Mountain Correctional Center within 30 days of hire.Military Service Interview Preference : Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran.The Municipality of Anchorage is an employer of National Service.
