This position will be within the Human Factors and System Management team, which supports the Habitability and Human Factors Branch at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. This team provides research, analysis, evaluation, and usability testing of crew interfaces for work areas and equipment. This position is specifically for the JSC SF Lighting Lab.

The Lighting Lab investigates and evaluates proposed lighting systems for use on space vehicles to enhance the crews' direct and indirect viewing. This effort includes the investigation, measurement, and analysis of artificial lighting systems such as docking lights, portable lights, and navigation lights.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform interior and exterior lighting analyses using CAD and lighting simulation software.

Review programmatic lighting requirements to ensure requirements encompass current knowledge of safe, task-appropriate lighting design, including but not limited to industry standards and NASA Human System Standards 3001.

Assist in verification of whether vendors have met stated lighting requirements.

Contribute to lighting designs for Government reference vehicles and test and training facilities.

Serve as a Lighting Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the human exploration development programs.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

Candidate must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science or closely related field with 5 years of related coding/scripting experience and experience in CAD-based software.

DESIRED:

Experience and/or additional education in a lighting-related field (electrical engineering, light engineering, or closely related technical discipline) or in aerospace engineering is desired.

SKILLS AND TRAINING:

REQUIRED:

The qualified analyst must be detail-oriented but also able to assess the appropriate scope and needed fidelity for a given point in design. The qualified applicant must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

DESIRED:

Candidate should have the ability to effectively interact with customers at all levels.
