The Hired Guns are seeking a Director, Site Analytics, Merchandising to create a new data-driven paradigm for the vital merchandising function of a top player in e-commerce retailing. We’d love to talk if you’ve got superior command of analytics tools and practices, in-depth knowledge of the retail business and the e-commerce customer journey, and experience leading organizational transformation through analytics.The Nitty GrittyThe backstory on the organization and why they need to hire you!The Director, Site Analytics, Merchandising will lead innovation and transformation aimed at enabling the merchandising organization to become agile, data-driven decision makers. You’ll partner with the merchandisers and coach them on how to learn to trust in the power of data and how to use analytics to achieve even greater success. In turn, you’ll communicate their business requirements to the product managers so their needs get on the roadmap and are accurately conveyed to engineering. You’ll advocate and evangelize for data analytics as an essential tool that the merchandisers can’t live without.You’ll lead a team of six analytics pros in building best-in-class analytics processes that distill robust data sets into actionable insights. You’ll train your team in new tools and skill sets, mentor them in effective cross-functional collaboration, and organize and prioritize their workload. You’ll shift gears seamlessly from delegation and direction-setting to roll-up-your-sleeves mode as the situation demands, never losing your can-do attitude.Why You?How you’ll know if you’re a fit…It’s not easy to engineer a culture change within a whole functional area of a company that’s been successful doing things a certain way. But that’s what you’re being called on to do here: your task is to upskill an already-effective, but non-technical, merchandising team in digital analytics. So it’s going to take a really special blend of technical skills, leadership, and salesmanship.Luckily, you’re up to the challenge. You’re a great collaborator and communicator who knows how to listen to needs, concerns, and objections, and respond empathetically as well as effectively. Your technical chops are unparalleled, but you haven’t forgotten how to talk to non-technical people and respect that they have their own deep knowledge base in their area of expertise.You’ve got 7+ years working with analytics in a retail e-commerce environment before; that’s a must. You’ve developed understanding of and insight into the e-commerce conversion funnel and how to optimize it using analytics. The following qualifications will make you an even more exciting candidate:Track record at a multicategory or name-brand retailer, with a big SKU count and both digital and physical presenceSome background in merchandising or buyingExperience in leading business transformationNow, on to those unparalleled tech skills. You have a bachelor’s in a quantitative or technical subject, and preferably a master’s in a similar field (statistics, mathematics, etc.). You’re expert-level with web analytics tools, especially Adobe Analytics. You’ve got solid proficiency with Tableau and other data visualization tools as well as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. SQL? Absolutely, gotta have it. Not to mention Adobe Target, Tealeaf, and Tealium Tag Manager: all great to have.
